How to Create a Start
I'd like some help on how to create a custom start scenario.

To create a game start you'll first need a squad. This will be a squad containing the characters you start with. You can either steal one from an existing start, or make your own. If you make your own, you'll also need to either select some pre-made characters, or create your own.

The you just add your squad to a new game start. Then you can select default faction relations, starting technologies, starting money, and starting town (don't select one for a random spawn).

As I don't know what exactly you're attempting to do, I can't offer much specific advice. Though I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about it. :)
I do appreciate it. Basically, I'm looking to start as a slave in Rebirth. I intend to escape, and so on, blah blah rebellion, you know how it goes.

No option to start as a slave unfortunately. Though you can always follow an honor rule as I do for my own rebirth slave start. Just walk yourself into a cage at the beginning and they'll enslave you in a little bit. Or if you really want to enforce it, you could make the character(s) start unconscious, allowing the paladins to enslave you.

I'd start with duplicating the Rock Bottom start's character, "Naked dude". Edit it him to your liking, such as giving him the rag loincloth, and removing the weapon and/or broken arm if you want. Repeat as needed for however many characters you want.

Once you've done that, duplicate the Rock Bottom's squad, "start- rock bottom". Remove the "Naked Dude" and add your character(s).

Then go create a new start and add your new squad to it. Just select "Rebirth" from the list of towns, and set your money to however much you want. After that, it should be working.

I'm assuming you already know how to do some of these things. But if you don't, I'm happy to try and help you along with them. :)
I have not really taken a crack at the FCS, so I may not really know what to do.

Alternatively, if you just want the game start, I could easily just spruce mine up a bit and upload it. If you want to make your own, I'm happy to help. Just thought I'd offer since I already have my own made. :)

I'd like to try my hand. Could you detail the steps?
Shidan Oct 3, 2016 @ 11:40pm
Very well, here we go. :)

First off, when you open up the FCS you'll get a screen that looks a lot like this[imgur.com]. Make sure no mods, besides the default ones (rebirth, newworld, dialog, gamebase), are selected. Then click "New Mod".

Name your mod whatever you want. Once you've named it, hit create. It should then appear in the list of mods, likely already selected as the "ACTIVE" mod. If it is, click done. If not, click the mod in the list so that it says "ACTIVE" next to it, and click done.

You'll then get to a screen that looks similar to this[imgur.com]. I've circled the places you'll be going to for this mod. And you can expand entries by clicking on the little + symbols next to the names. Which you might notice I've already done on the factions one, so that I could access the squad list.

First up, select the "Characters" section by clicking on it (not the plus). You should get a list of every character in the game. Now you need to find the character named "Naked Dude" and duplicate him. You can do that by right-clicking on him and selecting it from the list, as shown here[imgur.com]. If you're having trouble finding him, there is a search bar just below the list of characters you can use to help find him.

Once you do that you should be on this[imgur.com] screen. Quite bit here that you don't need to mess with, so I'll try and keep this specific. You can rename him in the top left, not strictly needed as you can rename in-game on new game as well, but you may want to. On the right hand side you should see all the current options applied to this character, in this case you've got the broken arm and the starting weapon and its quality. Above that you've got a dropdown menu where you can select new options to add to the character.

I'd start by renaming the character, and removing the current 3 options (strictly optional, only if you want to). You can remove them via the right-click menu if you're interested. I'd also add the Rag Loincloth often worn by the slaves, but that is of course also up to you. Go up to the dropdown menu and select clothing, then click add. Then find the "Rag Loincloth", selet it, and click ok. Afterward it should look something like this[imgur.com].

Once you're done with your character, switch over to the "Squad" section. You may need to expand the "Faction" section to see it. As with the character, duplicate the "start- rock bottom" squad. Works very much the same way as the character's entry. Rename if you want, then remove the current "Leader". After that, go up to the dropdown menu and select "Leader. From that list, find your custom character and add him to the squad. Then you're done here.

Then go to the "Game Starts" section. Instead of duplicating, right-click somewhere in the list of starts and select "New Item". Again, it's very similar to the other entries. From here you can rename the start, and add its description over on the left. You can also change the default money amount. When you've got those as you want, got up to the dropdown menu and select "Squad". Then add your custom squad as usual. After that, go select "Town" from the dropdown menu. Then find and add "Rebirth" to the start.

After that you should be good! Save your mod using the button in the very top left corner of the screen. You should now be able to use and play your mod in-game. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, as always. :)

If your curious about one of the many things in the FCS, you can often click on it to get a brief description of what it does. You can probably use that to learn some things not mentioned here. But if in doubt, you can always post on the forums. I read everything, and will try and help if I can.

Awesome, thanks for your help. I'll take a crack at it later on.

I think it would be cool to have a bandit start. You start the game just like a typical group of 8-15 hungry bandits (other bandits would still be hostile to human players faction). Not sure how id set up faction relations at the start, as Ive seen bandits go through holy cities without issue before and im pretty sure it wasnt a bug?)

Edit; Back in march long before in game cost adjustments I had started a 5 nobodies game and used a bug which increase the amount of player in the starting squad if you adjust the world population slider To start the game with i think it was 16 nobodies. From there my only goal was traveling between the big cities somewhat near the green valley and getting up to 30 people as fast as possible without stealing or importing before there were no more $700 with medkits worth over half that).

It was a lot of fun and getting the save out of storage im finding they are only worth 13k, its day 10, each person has shoddy dust bandit gear an an inventory full of more with a small amount of food. All around a massive amount of sleeping matts surrounding a campfire after what i assume was a big battle with one 3-4xHungryBanditHerds North of Stack

I think bandits are allowed in Holy Nation cities so long as they don't cause a disturbance. Either that, or faction relations aren't completely set up yet.

I like to hang out in stack. Hungry bandits wander into town sometimes and the guards ignore them at forst. Eventually the town does fight them though. You can hire the ones put in cages in the jail. They have better stats than the recruits with all 1s and jast time I bought a bandit, which was a long while ago, he cost less than a normal recruit and had better stats. Especially toughness since he was just wailed on by the guards.

I created a start over a year ago called planet of the beaks. I start as a group of beak things. There's no way to interact with people. You just go around and terrorize people until you eventually get killed. I also created starts where I start as fogmen called Blue Man Group, and cannibals called How to Serve Man. I had to make some tweaks to the cannibal and fogmen races to get that to work. Lastly I created a start called Pure Evil where my team was a group of those powerful enemies that have big bounties on them. I can't remember the exact composition of the group. I think it was that guy who leads the cannibals. a fogman prince, the Dust Bandit king, a beak thing, and I think more but I can't remember.

How would someone copy a squad from an existing save into this setup? I want to take the group I made and drop all their stats to baseline, I'm just super attached to the characters.

Could you not simply export the appearances at a plastic surgeon and start a new game while importing those appearances?

Or if you want to simply reset your stats, that's a fairly simple edit. Covered in my save editing guide. :)

I really wanted to make it a game start, mostly to force myself to start from scratch but also to use all of Neko's rebalance mods and kind of RP the whole thing. I'm building everyone from scratch in the FCS and importing the appearances like you said. Although I'm not sure if I were to publish the mod how those bod2 files would be bundled, if at all. Thought about writing some dialogue lines and creating a pseudo campaign for it.

Any information on the misc stat values that don't have descriptions? Some old posts say they were not currently implemented features but that was over 2 years ago at this point
