How to edit mods from workshop in fcs?
I have the recruitable prisoner mod, and im trying to look into it to edit some of the stuff/see what dialogue paths need to be taken to get the recruit, but i cant figure out how to load it in fcs.

There are the default mod things at the top when i first load it (rebirth.mod, dialogue.mod, etc) but in the big space under it there is nothing, and that is where it should show up if im not mistaken.

What do i do?

first you need to go to the mods you downloaded
J:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\workshop\content\233860
replace drive letter and partial directory with where yours are located. or search for 233860.

once you have the mdos you need to move them to your mod directory in the Kenshi main folder.
J:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Kenshi\mods
then you need to rename the folder with the numbers to the name of the mod file. it has to match!
then you can edit them via FCS

I know this is a dead thread but, I have to ask because I can't figure it out...how do I tell what the mod file name is? I moved/copypasted the whole folder to the main mods folder but, still can't see it in game editor.

It's inside the folder. It'll be the .mod file if you have file extensions on, sometimes windows also detects it as a movie file. Just match the folder to the name of that file and it should work fine.

Step by step

1. Google steam on your web browser and navigate to Kenshi worksop page
2. Search for the mod you installed
3. Click open said mod page
4. Copy the numeral part of the mod page address
fe the 1589660000 from the address https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1589660000&searchtext=TheModsName
5. Go to your Steam folder in your computer
6. Search for the 1589660000 (the number you copied)
7. Open the file location and copy the folder named 1589660000 (the number you copied)

8. Navigate to Kenshi folder and inside it the mods folder
9. Paste the folder you copied in there
10. RENAME THE FOLDER. Rename the folder and all three items in it the same, a name you want. Fe. The Mods original names was 'Luggage' the folder would have
_Luggage.img
_Luggage.info
Luggage.mod

rename all three and the parent folder something else. I am lazy so I just add a letter to them. So: _LuggageB.img _LuggageB.info and LuggageB.mod and the folder LuggageB. It is important to have the _ in front of the .img and .info names.

11. Open Kenshi game, deactivate all mods and activate your new LuggageB (orwhatevername you gaveit)
12. start a new game (it saves mods) and close it whenever

13. Open Kenshi game and the FCS (game editor) click open folder (if it is not already open) and make sure only the LuggageB is tagged on the window below. Do not untag anything on the window above.

14. You are now ready to edit the mod.

Just to update this a little and make it far easier for anyone visiting:

1. Download the Kenshi Mod Manager (Works best with less mods than more, but for this it works perfect) - https://www.reddit.com/r/Kenshi/comments/fy9rne/mod_manager_tool_for_kenshi/

2. Open the Kenshi Mod Manager and select Configure from the top options - Set the correct path for your Workshop mods Steamlibrary> Steamapps > Workshop > Content > 233860 and that you've got the correct path for Kenshi
Steam Library > SteamApps > Common > Kenshi > Mods

3. On your Kenshi Mod Manager at the bottom right corner you have "Folder Management" click this

4. Select "Create Symblinks"

You can now edit your mods in the FCS. I believe however if you do it this way, they may be overridden if any mod you edit is later updated, so you may want to make a duplicate of the mod you intend on editing.

Hey I know this is an old thread but thanks so much for this! I'd been wanting to create some custom starts using a mod collection from the workshop and you made it so much easier for me haha. Thanks!
