As Hatsune said , its a no.
Usually devs have avoiding adding kids to games that have easy to edit animations...
because of things like the sims "nude" mod , that resulted in the child avatars appearing nude.
which despite the fact its not in the base game.
it still comes/came with backlash on the Devs. and the company that produced it. the only reason the sims are still made is because EA had the resources to survive.
people always blow things out of proportion.for no real reason. blame things on the companies that had nothing to do with it.
like the hot copy, mod for GTA:SA. and various other games.
but given the height management and the potential to edit the game a fair amount its still possible to mod the ability to have kids in teh game but if there killable , or appear' nude in some form that will still create controversy.
You can already create childlike characters ingame just using the editor. The main factor is the nuisances of dealing with children in a game world centered around gruesome violence and death, especially in a game that designed around "no magical restrictions" means that having them running around fighting and being killed all over the place would be majorly frowned upon, while having them invincible or otherwise non-attackable would be game breaking. It is easier on the devs and the community to just simply not have them in the game.
Yep . it'd be nice if political correctness didn't effect gaming.
personally since as far as we know sprites aren't alive . i have no problem with child-like sprites dying on my screen. if anything potentially trying to raise kids in a world like Kenshi would either drive you nuts, or be quite an adventure.
especially if your 'child' disappeared off into the woods ,or desert.
it'd be like an impromptu quest.
Well I must wait for some kind of mod or whatever :) Maybe one day I'll try to create one :)
They can hide anywhere and they don't even need to pick cage locks.........they just squeeze between the bars!
No one ever looks at their feet when being attacked. You could arm them with those little cheese knives and set them to attack people's Achilles heal.
The possibilities are endless.
Political correctness is attributed to protecting a minority. I don't think the majority of people are generally excited about the idea of having to kill children.
Personally, i would rather kill 10000 adults than be forced to kill a child because he attacks one of my farmers. That's not so much political correctness, but personal moral. I would much rather not be forced to have to do that. It would remove my interest in Kenshi as a whole, especially due to how emerssive Kenshi can and is meant to be.
Hunger Games left a very sour taste in my mouth for a very long time.
If however, children were present in the game and were neutral, and were not part of bandit groups or militia, and generally retreated at the sight of combat, or atleast tried to, (because i can't agree with them being immortal or unattackable), then that would be a different story.
If nothing else, it would give me some motivation to help people that aren't my own.
They could become the non-combat support staff that run your outpost. You also have a reason to protect that outpost as well that goes beyond "it's a big pain to rebuild it".
Put limitations on them like no arming the children. They will flee ,but not fight etc.
They can still die from animal or bandit attacks, but the payer is not forced into harming them.
It would give a player more options on what kind of game they are playing.
They could ignore this stuff and go about a "regular" Kenshi game or build a more real settlement based around a family/tribal community.
There not actuall children beyond the graphics there just 1's and 0's . i mean unless your saying we're actually killing things.
in which case i guess we must all be psycotic because we are deriving pleasure from killing. in which case I shall assume you are Anita Sarkessian, an often attempt to outlaw games because there 'violent' and 'treat women really poorly" even though most games treat there characters equal.
strawmen are awesome.
Hmm ... I don't valuate human life like you, 10000 adults are not worth more then 1 kid, 17 yo white boy is not worth more then 15 yo black girl, 20 blue ppl are not worth more then 22 green ppl I just don't care about this "worthness" of life, life is life and it's same no mater what, but thats another topic.
- Fortunly 100% Agree. I'm in majority, and my way of playing with kids in game would be protective, I wouldn't put them to attack, wouldn't make slaves of some random kids in the world, I would rise my city expance it, "Kids are our future" would be my motto.
This could be solved in simple way with use of current game mechanics. Whats battle efficiency of a kid ? - Deffinitly worse then adults. Whats battle efficiency of a teenager - Worse then adults. Now put yourself in mind of maybe mindless, but I hope not so stupid bandits, what would be more efficient puting kids in battle and on 99% lost them or rise them as a warriors, keeping them at back etc. (Kids eat less then alduts so they wouldnt be a big deal to keep them alive.). So in most cases it wouldn't be case of morality it would be just a simple logic, and what would be reaction of a kid, if he see 10 grown men and women running at him with katanas ? It would be primal reaction - RUN. (Btw. we should put in game this "stance" run from enemy.)
" [and were not part of bandit groups or militia] " - Don't you agree that this game would be hell more immersive if the world would be LIVING ? If you could CHOSE if you are good guy or a bad guy ? and being good guy by game forcing you to being one is not realy good.
And also guys keep this in mind ...
Also I wanted to add, kids in game would be like a tool, like knife - with you can make food for ppl you love, and with it u can take someone's life - it's your chose how you will use it.
char start since child
same as the guy with dog, the dog part
but change to boy or girl.
(if we don't want child npc)
only can do some easy work, and can't leave town.
take some quest just for kids.
earn few coins for living.
till they grow up to teen or adult
than can leave town, start adventure.
I would see this more like a tutorial for this game :) hmm and it would be good, lerning basic of game, game showing most posibilites etc.
this is not a very good idea. for one, too many things are needed to know, like fighting and building and researching.
Artificially stopping you in one town would not allow you to do those things, even more so as a child.
For me even as a immersion level idea i never thought of having kids being brought into the game. even more so with others adding in marriage and aging along with children, all of which are known that they wont be added.
Over all this is primarily a squad based combat game. and children just don't fit into that concept.
and good one Tommygun. nothing like adding in forced child labor.....
ethics and immersion aside, there really is no valid reason for kids in a combat game like this. and in the many years i been watching these forums. not once has anyone ever come up with a good idea/reason to add in kids. or at least any that would show the Dev a good reason why he should add them.
Remember, when asking for a feature that the Dev has said no to already, you really need to come up with a good plan as to why its needed beyond it adds to the immersion level.
My only reason beside immersion is another possibility of gaining characters, and adding new possibilities of gameplay - thats it, but I see not everyone would be happy to see kids in Kenshi :) so maybe I should hope for mod :)
