Shift key opens steam interface

Very often times when pressing shift alone, to select multiple things, people, or the many other things the key does for the game, it opens the steam UI. Rather than needing to push shift+tab as per usual.

This is rather annoying.

Odd, it doesn't do it to me.

Are you in full screen mode, or windowed?

And do you alt+tab regularly? I've known some games to screw up and think you're holding tab down after you alt+tab.

I have tried both, windowed and full screen, and it does it on both situations for me. Which, is in fact the reason I saw Your response just now.

When it happens to me, it's related to having alt tabbed recently. And to be honest, it happens with about every game I have on steam, which seems to indicate it's a steam issue. Happens only once after alt tabbing though.

go to the steam, and remove the shortcut.

This is actually a key input issue. If you alt tab out of the game, or otherwise have pressed the tab button at some point where the game stops taking input (such as an autosave), It will not recotnize that you are no longer pressing tab, and upon presshing the shift key, the game will recognize shift+tab.

This isn't just for Kenshi, but it happens on quite a few steam games. I think It may just be a problem with steam overall.

I've long since rebound my steam overlay key to numpad * due to this back when steam overlay was first releasing. There are lots of better key combos for it than the default shift tab.

It happens to me a lot. It happens when you SHIFT-TAB away then come back and press the right SHIFT key. It's pretty obnoxious.

I see that others have experienced this with other games on steam. I personally have not, I alt tab ... ALL... the time, mainly because I run two monitors and live stream all the time, so Move mah mouse about.

for me it was probably happening when i went for steam overlay with shift+tab, then steam also uses the key next to right side CTRL and SHIFT, the "/"... that i must have keep hitting - althugh i would swear i only hit shift...

This also activates gameoverlay, and cant be disabled to my best knowldege, only by changing shift+tab shortcut....


...set your steam-overlay shortcut to CTRL+TAB, problem should disappear, sure did for me

It wont happen if you play in games with fullscreen borderless mode. Likely the other games your playing are in borderless rather than real fullscreen.

could it be related to single vs multimonitor?

I use 2 montiors, runs kenshi in windowed (not even full screen windowed) and have not had the overlay issue. In fact, I have not seen that with any other steam game, and did not even know of the problem before reading this thread.

I am running win 10x64. It has a s**tload of problems, but apparently, the steam overlay wasn't one of them.

Nope, i have 4k + 2k monitors in use, issue happened regularly driving me mad until i just changed shift+tab to ctrl+tab.... gone ever since for good :D

But only if its a few minutes since last time I pressed shift key.
