How do you die in this game?
Because the last time, I just waited for several minutes as my main character healed and soon enough she got up at the last part of this video:

So what does it take for this game to flash me the "game over" screen?

Not that I want to see that but I just want to know what to watch out for.

Thanks!

for you to bleed out if your health goes - for to long generally around -100 you'll die. if you get patched up then you should survive but usually the only way to die is just to get injured to the point of no recovery.

Theres a slider you can set when your creating a new game called chance of death. On default your character generaly needs a hell of a beating to die.

Even when it says "Dying" in the status bar, there seems to be a decent chance your character will stabilize into a "healing coma".

Deaht is pritty uncommon, at least for my group. The only time ive seen someone die outright is while fighting 3 Leviathans at once and thats because they have such a high per hit damage potential. Everythign else in the game uses Katanas sabres or small clubs wich have more dps but less damage per indavidual swing so a reasonably tough squad will never see fatality's from them.

Currently im using one of Neko's mods that jack up NPC stats and squad sizes and the only thing that can consistantly KO my enture squad is sand ninjas but even then since their weapons do little damage per hit they can only KO my people.

I guess to some people being stuck in a recovery coma is equivelant of dieing which is fairly common in the early game due to low combat ability and low toughness.

Ways to die: -100 in head, chest, or abdoman.
If you're bleeding and you hit -75 in blood level (I think that's the death point.. it might be negative of your maximum now.. not sure havn't died myself from that.)
Blood level degradation slows and can recover to stop bleeding, but any bleeding in limbs does not. If you happen to get bleeding in head chest or abdomen, and the hp falls below your KO point.. Say goodbye unless you can get someone to first aid you, or you WILL bleed to death, as you will not be able to come out of KO to prevent those areas from bleeding to -100.
keep in mind, that the really nasty and dangerous factions are not implemented yet.

Some people where wiped out by the black dragons. they have very high weapon and defense skills.

They were added on accident during the cannibal expansion, than removed 12 hours later. They will return at a later date.

That being said, it's a reaaaally good idea to either travel in groups (friendlies will sometimes rescue you) or keep a member of your squad in a town in reserve, so he or she can zip out when the enemies leave.

I remember in my early days of playing, i had a runner that i had running all day and night to raise athletics as much as possible. Those times when i had to have them run half way across the map to save a dying person, hoping i would get there in time <3

only 3 times have i lost my squad or nearly did

recently: levi attacks biting off the heads off my small group. Save eventually became corrupted due to a bug and i had to reload from a older game.

Entire squad: Was in Clownsteady doing some shopping and wave after wave of dust bandits, cannibals, hungry bandits and sand ninjas came streaming in. after 6 hours of combat ( real life time ) 3/4 of my troops were dead or knocked out for a very long time.

Sloe Play: Was back when females were first added i came across cannibals who knocked me out, and when i tried to escape the cage bugged on me and ended up with the cannibals killing me.

in 1,200 hours of game play thats about how many times i have had character deaths.. besides the times i sent them off to die, but thats a different story. so yea it is rather hard to die unless you get super unlucky. like what happened to me at clownsteady.

I had my 70.x saves corrupted as well. Had to revert back to an old quicksave a 3 months old.
Lost a bit of progress but i got my high and superior quality armor back (There was a bug eearly on in 70.x that reset quality levels to standard)

Long story short, Keep a backup of your manual, quick and autosaves just in case.

Chris is trying not to wipe peoples saves but sometimes bugs happen and the only way to prevent it is to keep backups.

Nadlug about "Long story short, Keep a backup of your manual, quick and autosaves just in case. " where are the save files located?

It's more of a bleedout system, your character dies when all of the body parts are broken or if one is extremely damaged such as -50 for an arm or a back.

Your caracter will only die from bleed out or their head chest or stomach reaching -100. Arms and legs dont factor into death.
