there really is no way to add it as it was never programed into the game.
Even if it was an aesthetic of them dual wielding them with animations when they unsheathe. But I see.

Yes, those are effectively a piece of armor, not weapons.
we might see it in the 2nd game though. which would be kewl since i like dual wielding. i like using it in another game i been playing a lot, Conan Exiles
The most obvious choice for defense in close combat.
There is a significantly higher chance for dual wielding than shields, and even dual wielding isn't likely. Chris hates shields, and in the past called them the "water-wings of melee combat". xD
but bad news for shield use lovers.
And to pull another Chris quote to counter. xD
"Shields are not needed because any good movie will tell you that arrows can be avoided by doing backflips."
