Selling Food via Shop Counter in starving towns
Hey all,

I am curious if anyone has ever tried this? Certain world states can change the hunger stat of npc in towns, for example when you take out the slave camps of UC.

Now my theory: NPCs buy mostly food and medicine from the shop counter.
What would happen if you try to set up a shop in a hungry city and feed the poor souls?

Because the nps are always hungry, they should use up any food items in their inventory and the demand would never end.

Please let me know if you have some experience regarding shop counters or even this exact situation!

This wouldn't really work, though not due to a fault in the logic here. Hungry characters would indeed eat the food, and never run out of space due to that.

But, all NPCs have limited money, and the wages system intended to give them more doesn't work. So they'd eventually run out of money, and never be able to afford more items.
nothing
NPC hunger rates are fixed. they cant ever fully starve. so feeding them would be a waste, that and NPC's have buy lists and can only buy what is on them. they also only have a small amount of money and run out fast.
Kenshi is rather limited in this area.

though food ( cheap food ) is one of the best items to sell because it doesn't clog up NPC inventory.

I have the mod for enhanced shopping, it is supposed to deal with the money issue, cant confirm if it actually works though. But it wouild certainly be very interesting to test it out^^

Or do you mean, that the wages system is generally bugged and no mod can fix it?

The wages system itself doesn't work. So while a mod can give a character more money to use, they'll still eventually run out. No mod can do anything about that.

They definetely buy dried meat and chewsticks. And of course the shop counter is only for roleplay and a certain gameplay loop I find interesting. We all know, that you can make money very easily in kenshi, that is not the issue, I am simply interested in the npc behaviour and if it would change depending on the hunger status

That is very sad to hear :(
yep, they will buy food. but eventually stop as Shidan pointed out due to lack of funds.
you would have to have a mod that gave them crazy amounts of money for extended game play. or move from town to town.

But what if you make every NPC richer than Elon Musk? Like give them 9999999999999999999999999999 cats or something, so they could technically run out, but you wouldnt notice it, because at that point your playthrough would be over

As Hatsune said, that's certainly doable. Though, probably limit that a bit, because the game will crash if you go over 2 billion or so. :P

but even 2.000.000.000. cats would last a very long time, if you dont change their shopping lists and only let them buy food and medicine. for example: a npc buys items for around 175 cats each day, that would still be over 10.000.000 ingame days... No regular playthrough lasts that long. The highest I´ve gotten so far, were 1200 ingame days
But I am no modder, I don´t have the slightest clue, how to do these things. Otherwise I would create a mod that simply makes every npc in the game a billonaire
Pretty simple change actually, since the tool has the ability to make changes to all selected characters at one. Select all characters, boost the min and max money, done.

Unless you use a mod of course.
It works temporarily as long as you're selling cooked meat. If you sell better food no one can afford it. You need extra mods to boost the economy to use shop counters.
