Dissapointed a little but we have modders to help with the lil extra's ,they do still fix bugs, but objectively speaking they did make the correct decision. The developers actually love their game also
Dev askes the ones who paid for about their preference.
The ones which came after could either do the research, ask in the right place or accept what it is.
Development stopped for several reasons.
Kenshi uses a old Ogre engine. It can not multithread. Upgrading to Ogre 2.1 would take years.
Performance was suffering due to the engine and amount of content in the game already.
The Dev decided to finish what they could do then start working on Kenshi 2 using Ogre 2.1
They where gonna port Kenshi 1 to the new engine as they developed Kenshi 2. But development for both would have been very slow.
The Dev then changed to Unreal 4 and a poll was put up asking players what direction they should go.
Player's overwhelming voted for them to work on Kenshi 2. So that's what they did.
And maybe port Kenshi 1 to Unreal 4. Least then they would have the assets to do so but it would still be a half a decades worth of work once Kenshi 2 was finished.
So we are here. 55+ bug patches later. Development of Kenshi 2 has been underway for 2 years. And Kenshi 1 is still getting patches.
So, to add more. The game's engine has to be upgraded. Upgrading will take year's.
In the meantime, they will continue to work on Kenshi 2 and bug fix Kenshi 1. But no new features will be added.
Also we all acknowledge that the game has issues. It's freely mentioned it has bug's and will continue to have them. Many are due to the game's engine's and can not be fixed due to it. But the Devs are trying to fix what they can.
Had this game for a few years then they were still doing updates that required me to start new games. Never saw no poll. Guess me paying for it really did not mean anything like you say.
Back when the Dev started to work on the game, there were no good free options. Best game engine at the time cost 1 million to licence it. So he built the first part of the engine himself. Learning how to do so at the same time.
It took about 15 years to make the game. And he didn't have a full crew until the last 4 years of development.
This is a work of passion for the Dev.
Your welcome to think the game is unfinished. But the truth is, the game is as feature complete as the game engine will allow.
It is a finished game.
For Kenshi 2, he will have a programming team of 12 to 16. And use Unreal 4.
He will be able to do more of what he wanted in the first game in the second game
Until then, we have about 2 to 4 more years before we possibly get Beta access.
The Kenshi dev busted his backside building a game engine
Back then all we had was rolling sand to soak our fallen blood, now we have so much more.
After 10+ years of Kenshi, I'm looking forward to Kenshi 2. They should be able to move on and make a new game and hopefully even more money.
Good luck and have fun
This is the truth, is it a perfect game? Well I would argue it's pretty close. Modding has a great community keeping things fresh for me with every new playthrough. And due to the included mod tool, and a little learning on my part, I get to shape the game how I want it to be. I challenge anyone to tell me another game that lets me do that myself, with no real knowledge of how to make legit mods. I fully support the Devs moving to Kenshi 2 and can't wait to give it a go in the future!
Here's the poll, apparently you can still vote. Although the decision has been made based on answers on 2019

UPD: this pole is a joke. only ~2,600 people voted there in 2 years
As for Kenshi 1? It is simply one of the best games ever (and i played Pac Man in an arcade).
I do not claim any of the links I found are the actual original vote.
