Steam workshop - 3rd party downloader -any reliable exe's out there?
Apparently it is possible to download mods from Kenshi steam workshop using a 3rd party tool, I did not know this, but try looking for one that does not involve a sketchy web download(!).

I see Shidan's "Tweaks and Fixes" has been recently updated, but the Nexus version is dated August 2019. Any advice appreciated, cheers.

EDIT: found a plugin for chrome browser, directly from chrome webstore, and it works!

As a side note, I've now updated the Nexus version. Sorry about that, sometimes I forget about the Nexus since it's more of a pain to do. :P

NP regarding Nexus.

In fact thank you indirectly for I saw your comment there about 3rd party downloader. I had searched for something like that when making a decision whether to buy Kenshi GOG version and nothing came up in searches, in fact many said it was impossible.

Also apologies for an earlier post I made in this forum raging against Steam workshop not being in the spirit of modding community. My argument is still a logical interpretation, but I understand workshop is more convenient if it is tied to Steam Co.

No worries, I do understand the reasons for those who prefer Nexus. But it's a simple truth that the construction set for Kenshi has workshop integration, so a modder can upload and update their mods with one click, directly from the modding tool. Not to mention the ease of subscribing for users, and the fact that there are more users on Steam than Nexus.

Compare that to Nexus, where I've got to go delving through folders to find the mod I'm uploading, package it up, fill out several fields of information, all for a fraction of the user base. It's easy to procrastinate doing that, which is why most of my mods are not on Nexus. I generally only upload the big ones, or ones that people request. And I try to remember to update them at the same time, but I don't always.

As a moderator please consider adding the chrome downloader link to the FAQ pinned thread, at least it can be more easily referred to since this will be buried in a day or so.
Cheers!

We can't recommend 3rd party software or site's.

^-- This.

I would think that other than developer-allowed tools, like in-client Workshop downloading, third-party access to Workshop files would be restricted. Ff not directly restricted, then by Valve's TOS/EULA. It'd seem logical they would not want to host a free-for-all mod-distribution center. Though, they might ignore it in hopes of acquiring additional Steam account subscribers with such bait.

Is there a free developer Kit/API all these things are using that allows for this activity?

I wouldn't use it on a bet, though. Any mod worth playing is mirrored on other sites that are easily accessed without having to install third-party software. (Nexusmods, Moddb, etc.)

Shall we get into the debate whether valve/steam is making money then off of FREELY available mods made by modders who are not getting paid any money. That is, if the workshop has restricted access. If you don't see how, well, enough said.

I've got a steam account as well, vast majority of my games are here, you want to play 'mod police' and ban me from accessing this workshop???

Nexus mods: 735 mods
Steam: 10,000+ easily, and agreed most are vanity mods, but to characterize that the more interesting mods are on both platforms, well mate, wake up. No.

As Hatsune mentioned, we can't link to a random 3rd party site to do this. But, I do know of a way to download them just using Valve provided tools. Even if you don't own the game on Steam.

Give me a bit and I can write up instructions in its own thread, and assuming the devs approve, I imagine we could pin it in the workshop section of the forums.
It's primarily due to some site's/tools having the possibility of viruses.

Posted thread here: https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/discussions/18446744073709551615/3172198151270641838/?appid=233860

I've tested the process multiple times with various mods, on a computer that does not even have the game installed or the game owned by the account on it.
