In fact thank you indirectly for I saw your comment there about 3rd party downloader. I had searched for something like that when making a decision whether to buy Kenshi GOG version and nothing came up in searches, in fact many said it was impossible.
Also apologies for an earlier post I made in this forum raging against Steam workshop not being in the spirit of modding community. My argument is still a logical interpretation, but I understand workshop is more convenient if it is tied to Steam Co.
Compare that to Nexus, where I've got to go delving through folders to find the mod I'm uploading, package it up, fill out several fields of information, all for a fraction of the user base. It's easy to procrastinate doing that, which is why most of my mods are not on Nexus. I generally only upload the big ones, or ones that people request. And I try to remember to update them at the same time, but I don't always.
Cheers!
^-- This.
I would think that other than developer-allowed tools, like in-client Workshop downloading, third-party access to Workshop files would be restricted. Ff not directly restricted, then by Valve's TOS/EULA. It'd seem logical they would not want to host a free-for-all mod-distribution center. Though, they might ignore it in hopes of acquiring additional Steam account subscribers with such bait.
Is there a free developer Kit/API all these things are using that allows for this activity?
I wouldn't use it on a bet, though. Any mod worth playing is mirrored on other sites that are easily accessed without having to install third-party software. (Nexusmods, Moddb, etc.)
I've got a steam account as well, vast majority of my games are here, you want to play 'mod police' and ban me from accessing this workshop???
Nexus mods: 735 mods
Steam: 10,000+ easily, and agreed most are vanity mods, but to characterize that the more interesting mods are on both platforms, well mate, wake up. No.
Give me a bit and I can write up instructions in its own thread, and assuming the devs approve, I imagine we could pin it in the workshop section of the forums.
I've tested the process multiple times with various mods, on a computer that does not even have the game installed or the game owned by the account on it.
