Using a deprecated/experimental version of Ogre??
Hi, I realized from kenshi.log that Kenshi is using an experimental version of Ogre3d (2.0.0 unstable, Tindalos) which isn't even available for download..
Would be nice if a more recent version was used, at least a version that gets patched now and then.
I figure some of the crashes and bugs people encounter are probably ogre-related...

There were plans to upgrade to a later version of Ogre for Kenshi 2, which would include porting Kenshi 1 over to the new version. But those were cancelled when they decided to step away from Ogre entirely, and go with Unreal for Kenshi 2.

That left the Kenshi 1 port in a precarious position, since porting it to Unreal would take a ton of extra time and effort, possibly delaying Kenshi 2 significantly. So the devs asked the community what they would prefer, and the community voted overwhelmingly in favour of working on Kenshi 2 as the focus, leaving Kenshi 1 as it is for now.

Which is a big shame, because most likely we will have two half done games instead of one finished in the end.

even if they did the upgrade to Ogre 2.* It would still take years as the current version is single core instruction. while 2.* is multi core instructions. very large difference in coding.

Ah, thank you both for the input. I didn't have any actual hope of this being done; working in the software industry myself I understand how managing 3rd-party upgrades can be difficult.
However, the upgrade might not have needed a complete overhaul, but mostly working around API changes as it's already using a newer version.. (i.e. it's not like porting from Ogre 1.x)

Kenshi huge game content wise, hard to believe they will do same amount of work again in Kenshi 2.

I believe, it would be better if they ported Kenshi to new engine and filled it with missing content. Even paid DLC's would be fine. To bad I was in minority while voting was cast.

Guessing you've never worked on a passion project before, because yes, I absolutely can see him doing it again. And this time he has a team from day 1, so it'll be more efficient and shouldn't take nearly a decade.

If he wants to do it again, then the people around him should stop him if they know what is good for him. And whoever wants the devs to port kenshi 1 to the unreal engine, I really hate you because you do not know what you are asking of people. Of all the new and exciting things that can be made by the precious time of Chris you choose to ask him for a engine port to play kenshi 1 using the unreal engine. I am fully aware of the fact that not all sequels are better than the first game, but this is the creator of kenshi we are talking about here. You rather play kenshi 1 with unreal engine than play kenshi 2? Serious?

Kenshi 1 have a lot of content and huge potential already. Kenshi 2 have nothing, they have to start from scratch. Yes, i want Kenshi ported to new engine and expanded. And I don't want to wait 12 years for another half-finished game.

Good points, but I imagine many of the issues Kenshi 1 has (countless bugs, poor optimization, poor visuals, hardcoded mechanics with limited modding toolset) come from using that outdated engine. If that is the case, working on a sequel using an up to date engine instead might be a better use of the dev's time.
Plus, I assume making a sequel means another payday for Chris, I won't expect of him to work for free (porting Kenshi 1).

Not sure about everyone, but I gladly pay for content DLC's for Kenshi, there is so much room for improvement. Especially if it will be ported to new, less buggy engine.

Same here. Personally, I'd be content with just one improvement: ability to mod the game, like TES:V or FoNV, without current limitations.
