1. Navigate to "All Programs" in Start menu, and then choose "Accessories".
2. Right-click "Command Prompt (Admin)".
3. Type "chkdsk driveletter: /f", and then, press "Enter" in the pop-up window to fix file system errors on the disk.
4. Type "chkdsk driveletter: /r", and then, press "Enter" to locate and repair bad sectors.
I'd agree with this, if the drive is miraculously working again back up any important files ASAP and then check it for faults. Sounds like it might be on the way out.
