Playing as a solo character viable?
Hi guys, just got the game and am currently downloading it. I was wondering if its possible to play as a single character instead of having a team/town and be successful. Speaking to my friend who has been playing the game, he reckons its going to be almost impossible to do.

Is he correct in what he's saying or will I be able to manage? Am thinking of going a thief/assassin style character.

it's going to be impossible without lots of saving and loading and it will be impossible to do any fighting because you won't be able to learn because you won't have anyone to pick you up and heal you if you end up getting beaten to the dying status

Solo is completely viable, just more difficult.

I like to start off more as a trader then a fighter, build up some capital and gear then go pick off survivors of fights between other factions for training, like when bonedogs ravage a bandit group you can wait for them to start getting up and train on them. Also, you can get to 15 attack on a dummy at some towns before even taking a swing at anyone.

Difficult yes, but not impossible and it doesn't require constant saves and reloads once you get the hang of it.

like the others said it's viable but if you want to get into fights more often and have to reload less often you just need a single other character to be hiding away from the action and come in after you're dying and all the enemies leave in order to heal you

You could start with the retired soldier or the holy swordto get a buff to your stats or a strong sword respectively. After that it's all about slowly leveling up by fighting dust bandits first then some of the Red Sabres and Swamp Ninjas in the swamps. You could make it so bandits don't loot you to make it a bit easier when you, innevitably, get knocked out in a fight.

All in all it should be pretty viable. With all the XP being soaked by one character, especially your dodge and defense stats due to the amount of hits that will be concentrated on you, you could have a high level character with good gear who can last a long time in a fight.

best way i rekon is hide in a town, steal and go between stack and the hub to sell on the way you'll see plenty of bandits and dogs fighting or the odd tech hunter that kill off groups of bandits which will allow you to snag one heal them up a bit and fight one on one for training if you like

it's more immersive way to play i rekon as your foucosed entirely on the one character and what they got / where they live ect, i do reccomend reguler saves though and a pair of wooden sandels and ninja rags to help you build up your athletics skill before going anywhere far if you can steal a thieves bagpack, big or small from the guild tower at the hub it will be a tremendous asset aswell

also a small hackfor building closer almost inside the walls of stack build a small shack as close as you can to stack right on the border where the blueprint goes from blue to green, confirm it and repeat the steps youl get closer and closer to the town as you do this till your actually building whithin the walls of stack this is a great way to get your self a good place (once you have the approprite research to build them) completly defended by the enitre town garrison

Very possible. I've been running around with one character since the start of Kenshi. You don't even have to save scum. Just play it smart. Remember the wise words of Governer Chris Christie, "If it looks stupid, it is stupid."

It is very doable. A lot of good hints have already given by other people in the posts above me, like what to fight and how to train.

But you could also play a completely different way.

Just run away. Wear very light gear and run away. Run, run, run.
Need some food? Steal it. Got caught? Run away.
Need some gear? Steal it. Got caught? Run away.
Want that guys sword? Stealth K.O. him. Did you fail? Run away.

See a group of bandits? Run away.
See a group of dogs? Run away.
Anrgy paladins? Run away.

Just be careful around beak things.

I find it most fun to begin on rock bottom start. instead of buying recruits, I find unique characters, save outcast slaves, assist tech hunters, and they choose to join with you cause you're so boss. you play solo until word gets around at how awesome you are. good times.
