Purchasable maps
It's been a while since I last played and damn has a lot changed. The map is actually pretty intimidating now, even though I can roughly remember the left handside. It has me wondering about brand new players and what they would think first entering the game.

So yeah, are there purchasable maps in game that highlight importants points of interest? Like towns, villages, tradeposts etc. Because if not I would definately like to be able to buy maps to help plot my course of exploration and exploitation . :)

I recall there being maps of certain areas yes, Holyland map showed the location of all the cities and towns in that little area. I think that extends to places like the UC south as well.

But some things like the swamp I dont remember if they have a map. Nor do I remember where they were found, probally a general store.

I don't think itll bother new players to much, I can't imagine people being that surprised by the size of Morrowinds map for example which looks just about as big.

*keeps trying to switch the A and B in the title* Nyeeeh...
you can purchase maps and find them in ruins. they reveal town locations.
The maps you find in ruins will generally lead to other ruins as well

You can also use the map on the wiki. It's up to date and accurate. But you'll spoil all the PoI to you.

Where do I buy maps? Do they also bring up icons on the minimap, because I managed to find a place called Market (I decided to play as a Hive Prince, Trader start) but no mini-map icon appeared on my main map, even though the Traders guild and start town icons were there.

Do I have to do something specific to make a town icon appear on my map?

You can buy maps from some traders, I think its mostly the ones with the sign at the front which is a guy with a backpack and a walking stick? They wont all have them though and each place will only sell a few maps that will each show a few locations.

Market ive never heard of, maybe... you are talking about the slave markets?
Icons should appear on your map when you get a bit away from the location, then as you get close, you will get a message saying 'you have found xxxxxx' or something like that.

Some locations have a "hidden" name. Which is a name it displays until you get closer. The Slave Markets for instance, go by the name Markets initially.

I get that message but no icon appears on my map, so as to keep track of where the settlement is when I leave.

Furthermore no map locations are revealed except my starting town. I dunno if more should be revealed or not but I do know that, no matter where I go in a settlement, their name does not get marked in my map.
That sounds like a bug then actually :/
The icons should be appearing on your map then staying there once you move away

Yeah I just validated my game files and 4 failed, now to be re-aquired. I'll play it again after some coursework and check to see if the bug is still there. Love the progress made for it so far though!

Did you try zooming in at all? Not all locations are visibile at all zoom levels. It's possible you were too far out.

Nah I zoomed all the way in and out but no worries, the validating the files has indeed fixed it. :)
