effective strength training?
so im trying to raise the strength on some characters.

the method iv been using is to fill their inventorys as much as i can with stuff, including a traders backpack so i can stack even more stuff on them, then doing the same to a second person so they can carry them and run laps.

the problem is now my strength is in the mid 40's im finding it hard to encumber anyone over 50%, that is the person whos doing the training, carrying a person in full heavy armor with full inventorys

is there a really compact item thats heavy i can get from somewhere? right now im using steel bars since they are 4kg each and quite easy to make in large ammounts

Fill 2 trader backpacks with ore. Put them in inventory. NOT IN BACKPACK slot. It'll encumber you even with 100 strenght.

Imo, Carrying weights is only effective till you reach 50-60 Str. After that, it slows down...

Being overencumbered will give 25% strength XP (walking). Carrying another character (best to carry an unconcious one because dead ones can despawn) adds another 25% for a total of 50% strength XP while walking.

If you want to go a little bit more extreme, do the same as above but this time, no weapons, just martial art. Trains Dex, Str, and Toughness(because you'll be having 0 dodge due to weight penalties). I've seen 77% Strength xp (combat) whenever that character goes into combat.

As for the items... I use a Bull's backpack(or Gar if you have em), fill it with Iron ore and transfer that bag to the character I want to train Str.

I got to agree with said above. If you get to 60, you're pretty much done with "training". You can carry almost any equiment without feeling the weight already, intentionally training strenght further is possible, but I see no point in it, to be honest. 60-65.
I usually stop "training" my recruits at 40-45 and let them get extra 10 points in battles over time, after 60, I don't monitor their strenght at all, because they already can carry anything I want them to carry.

im more intrested in using strength for unarmed and heavy weapons damage since all my guys are using light armor for the stealth bonus

Can fill up two trader backpacks with iron ore, put one in your inventory and one on your back, then equip 3 of the highest grade clubs you can make as well as the heaviest armor, You can then create a well and water tank at a large distance apart and set the person to haul water to that tank and gradually train their strength over time with minimal input from you.

One more way to "automate" it is to make your overloaded man to escort town's guard that have patrol duty. Check on them once in a while, because guards do go to sleep sometimes, but usually, it works just fine.

They can also go into private building and cause your character to get a bounty for trespassing.

being overencumbered caps str bonus at 25%. Carrying someone doubles Xp bonus.

So dont forget to lug a squadmember or bandit over your shoulder while running around getting strenght up

I'm usually doing to at Mongrel, and the only private building there would be residental, which I buy and own anyway :)

But yeah, you're right on that one. In most places you can eventually get into trespassing this way.

Doing a lot of fighting using a weapon that uses strength should increase it the same way using a dexterity based weapon raises dexterity.

It doesn't really though. Strength training rate from weapons is based on the weight of the weapon (unlike dex which is based on damage types). You need a weapon at least 20kg above your strength level for optimum training speed. Problem is, the heaviest weapon is ony 75kg. So at 55 you'll start slowing significantly until eventually you're basically gaining nothing.

Personally I find passive training by getting overloaded and walking around excruciatingly slow as well. I prefer using Martial Arts to train it. If you fight with MA while overloaded, every time you hit someone it gives a huge boost of strength xp (compared to the others). By far the fastest way to train for those so inclined. :)

I trained my character to 98 Str with Martial art + Overencumber + carrying someone... gives 77% STR XP rate during combat and 75% when not carrying anyone (in my case anyway).Thank you Shidan for confirming it.

Is martial art also *one* of the fatest way of training dex? The penalties of being overencumbered seem to lower MA skill thus, lowering damage but also lowering dodge rate (and depending on your backpack, it can even go into negative values).
