Rebuilding a ruin?
Hello.

I am now exploring the map and there are tons of abandoned towns and ruins. Maybe this has been commented before but.... do you think it would be possible to re-build the ruins in the future?

Ya se ha comentado varias veces, esta planeado como algo que se añadirá en el futuro cuando el juego salga de early acces pero de momento no puedes ir a unas ruinas, reconstruirlas y reclamarlas como tuyas.

You can do a lot with modding. If you just want to buy and repair the buildings it only take some small changes.

If you want to buy, repair then add new buildings and walls it becomes more complicated.

Its already said, several times that you cant rebuild and claim any destroyed/abandoned town.

Such a waste, there's sooo many good sites ruined by the presence of a ruin, either let us build near them since no active living thing owns them, or destroy them so we can claim the land as our own.

It really is a waste. Just started playing Kenshi again, and I found a "Lost Library" ruin. The first thing that came to mind was making it my base. Cleaning it up, restoring power, etc - After all, nobody owned the ruin, and it seemed to be in pretty good condition everything considered.

It even had a workbench, places to sit, a nice spot for a bed, chests - But no. I don't think you can do anything with ruins except grab any valuables that are there.

It was incredibly disappointing having to leave it behind, and I really hope we can do more with ruins in the future.

It doesn't seem to me that adding a claim button to the door of an abandon ruin or destroyed building would be that hard for the devs, but I'm not a programmer. You can already buy destroyed buildings in some cities, so some of the code is already there.

With the game getting more final content, the devs may not want to do this if it interferes with some of it. We still don't know what kind of scripted events they may have? There is also the possibility of a job system. If the devs script out a job where you need to go to a pacific ruin or script a battle over a building and you have a settlement there, it could cause issues. Although that's all speculation.

Part of the problem is that players can not own ruins (the building). And buildings can not become ruins.

If you buy a ruined building it becomes a blueprint. If you become the owner of ruined site through modding the game turns the ruins into fixed but with 0 hp buildings.

Edit: wrong screenshot

Hopefully it becomes more doable with mods after Assaults & War Campaigns features have been added.

If you were to take over that building, all the stuff inside would disappear. Go into a town with buyable buildings, go inside before you buy them and there's furniture and such. Those go away when you buy the building. The reason that is is buildings in towns are populated by squads assigned to a faction that search for specific building types in towns that the faction owns. Each time you import, it happens again. The locations of like a bar and a construction shop might change places as the bar and shop squads search for storm houses. All that furniture is attached to that building squad. The nameless faction, our faction, can't have those. So there's no squad to auto-populate the building, thus the furniture wouldn't be there.

I don't care about what's inside of them, my point is these ruins are almost always in a prime building spot. I'd like the option to own the empty shell and build around it, or to be able to demolish it and build from nothing. Why can't they put these ruins in places we wouldn't want to build? Like the side of a mountain or where there are no resources? they are ruins, and while I get that they add to the game through lore or ancient science books or whatever loot they have, they still get in the way.

I think about it from a realistic viewpoint, if I found an old stone building somewhere and liked it, I could build around it, fix it up if I wanted to or destroy it. What magical force prevents either of these options. Open world sandbox shouldn't limit us like that. As a few others have said, once we know if they are actually going to serve some purpose after release, like having some epic battle staged there, although why they'd want to stage a battle at a ruin is kind of questionable....It is what it is , but I still wish we had the option to build on, around or demolish them.

Now here's a thought. Make the buildings buyable and reduce the town size of the ruins to zero or whatever the lowest amount is. I have no idea if that would work, but in theory you could own the area except for a small spot the the center.

Can you turn off a ruin in the FCS so it doesn't even spawn?
the towns limit is hard coded.
that plan would not work.
