Well, if he doesn't show up again, you can import your save and reset the world.
Just make sure you are at least a little bit away from the building he is in or that building won't reset.
I have an issue with shopkeepers vanishing, maybe it's the same bug?
Maybe, but shopkeepers can also be killed off by bandits and animals at times.
The Bugmaster is too tough to get killed off by those.
There also used to be a very common bug where shopkeepers would get stuck ether in bed or along the path to and from bed.
Although, I personally haven't seen that bug for some time.
Just for the record, the bugmaster doesn't have a bed.
Sometimes my shop keeps don't get up from bed for days on end to open the store. Also some shop keeps don't restock for some reason.
I mean, the shop keeper is GONE. No guards or anything. If you run into their store and take something from a container, it's listed as STOLEN but no owner is IDed. If you take an item from a shop container (even a RED MARKED LOCKED ONE) and drop it on the floor, THEN pick it up, it's owned by you, no STOLEN tag at all.
Sometimes it happens when I load after a save, and sometimes I stole from that store, but other times I never did. (BTW, no towns have been overrun in my game by bandits of any kind)
I can try that if he doesn't show up after 20 more in-game days. Thanks. Is there any precautions I should take when importing, such as any backups? I remember seeing that importing and resetting will take out all the loot in the ruins, so I hope that's fixed by now.
Sounds like the exact same issue I have with boss characters and other important NPCs (Lady Kana for instance). Where they just up and disappear in an area that should be VERY safe for them (multiple strong allies).
PS: The import bug has long been fixed. So it should be safe now. :)
Edit: Actually, can you upload the save before you import? I want to check something out using the save editor.
Sure, I haven't decided on whether or not I'll import yet since I'm not certain that my research tech transfers (is it character specific? I have the following mods installed: Harder Group Combat, Wearable Masks (masks and goggles in belt slot).
Yes, you can bring your tech when importing. You can also bring your base. Both are option over on the side when you decide to import. You'll also probably want to untick the reset positions, it's on by default and will move everybody you have to some place in the Border Zone.
And no, tech is faction specific.

Although I can sort of see a pattern to the NPCs that have disappeared in my game: they're NPCs I've attacked but have not managed to harm. The Armor King is the exception in that he remained friendly after I tried to fight him, and I'm still on good standing with Skeletons.
I think I'll have to cut my losses and reset my world. A lot of my major NPCs are just disappearing.
Considering there was a modification to the despawning nature of squads in one of the most recent patches, I suspect it is somewhow the cause.
Thanks for looking into it, that sounds plausible, but why are so few people reporting this as a problem? Seems like just me and Peregrine here with this particular issue.
I should also mention that goats in my game despawn as soon as they are knocked out, I only started attacking goats after installing Neko's Harder Group Combat mod so I'm not certain if it's caused by the game or the mod.
I don't use mods and I have even Dust Bandits vanish fast. All the people in HUB are gone, half of STACK (without attacks) the Armor Merchant in Mongrel poofed and so did some in Blister Hill.
Another thing I've noticed is, that sometimes if you have several backpacks stacked in your inventory, the weight keeps going up, even if you are not hauling anything, or even after you SELL EVERYTHING in all the bags. I am kinda amused that poor Hatsune is literally lifting a TON OF AIR. She has 2 med and 2 small backpacks in a large backpack which along with a Trade backpack are in a Medium Thief bag and those are in a small bag. They're all empty and so is her inventory (Except she's armored) and yet she has over 1000 Kg of weight somehow.
