even if you have high combat skill. you could still be sub par because you dont know a weapon class.
also quality of weapon matters as well.
Dexterity will increase your attack and blocking speed, which prevent you from being staggered and never landing a blow, while it will also make you attack faster. Which is always good.
The 40-50stats is basically a soft cap. You'll have a hard time increasing it after that, due to the majority of ennemies being below that cap. Otherwise, a trip through the fog islands, tying people to poles for massive princes and heavy waves is very efficient (but it can get out of hand quickly, be sure to know what you are doing). Mechanical enemies in the ruins to. And so are prisonners.
Most people kidnap the Dust Bandit King since he's fixed to his location + has decent combat stats for a unique NPC. Beat him up, heal him, give him good armor + a crappy weapon, and throw him into a cage you own, in a house you built. Get your recruits inside, along with a character that can 'finish him/the Dust Bandit King', and keep that character on Passive. Let your recruits fight the Dust Bandit King, and allow your more experienced character to finish him if your recruits cannot. You can train indefinitely as long as you keep healing the Dust Bandit King and throw him into the cage, letting him out to get beat up again and again.
Some weapon classes (katanas and sabres) are undeniably better in the early stages of a caracters progression as opposed to more heavier Hacker or heavy/blunt weapon types.
Generally though you want the fastest weapon you can get your hands on at first. You might not win fights immediately, but you will be able to make more attempted attacks and blocks before you get knocked out.
No Dex/Str exp is based off the damage type delt. Cut = Dex, Blunt = Str. Unarmed is strictly blunt so you get only strength exp.
Total encumbrence does impact strength exp as well but weight alone has no influence on dexterity exp.
That being said the lighter weapons typicly deal more cutting damage than blunt or exclusivly deal cutting damage only.
There is a mod that adds training weapons, as well. Equip your recruit and their opponent with one, and have them fight. Your recruit will level up in attack and defense skills, however I don't think this increases Toughness (haven't used it yet in my game, not sure). It's the safest way to train, as you don't have to waste medical supplies on the "punching bag."
Toughness is trained by getting taking damage/getting beaten up. For the most part its like Athletics. You just get it passively as you play and there isnt much point in spending extra effort on training it specificly.
Not quite. Cut = Dex, but for Strength it's based on the weight of the weapon compared to your Strength level. For ideal training speed, you want one 20 kg over your level.
Unarmed also breaks the rules and trains Dex at a higher rate than it should based on it's damage, or at least it did during my tests a few months ago. In fact, it trained it at a higher rate than a katana did.
Doing lots of damage doesn't count for much if your guys are still made of wet pasta.
Is this possible without modding?
Once diplomacy gets flehsed out thoes features will become a part of the game.
