I just realized the DLC weapons made me quit KF2. WP Tripwire

Passing by a game I used to love I asked myself, who DON'T I play KF2 anymore?

And then it hit me.
Sure we all know and share the sentiment of DLC weapons being too expensive.

BUT

Given how I've never purchased anything from the cosmetics store, expect for the commando chicken costume because of nostalgia and meme potential, I didn't think it's a bad idea to give my monetary thanks to Tripwire for this hell of a game I only paid once for in 2015.

So what's the problem then? Well I love KF2 gunplay. So much so that I don't really care about the balancing and use the Stoner + M16 on commando because fun. And no I don't play HoE so chill.
But due to how much I love the gunplay, I'd love to use ALL new weapons TWI releases. I also own and play (used to play) the game both on PC and PS4, hell I'm the one who made my console buddies get KF2 as soon as it got the console release, and got the game on console too to play with them.

Now buying the weapons just on one platform wouldn't satisfy me, so I would have gotten all weapons on both. I own all weapon DLCs in KF1. But you can do the math on how much it would cost. And I even considered it until I did the math.


And it just hit me that after doing that math I just stopped playing KF2. Not as a boycott. Not as an intent to stick it to the devs. Just out of the disappointing realization that I have much better use for the money TWI is asking. So I put it there and moved on. Which is a shame cause it's still one of the best shooters out there.

The cosmetics are a mess, the lootboxes are a grind and the price of the weapons is insanity.

I know I've said nothing new here but had to pour my heart out about a game I used to love.

Thank you for sharing this moment with me and I hope KF2 still brings you as much fun as it used to bring me.

If paid cosmetics don't cover the cost of ongoing development you have four choices -
1) Paid DLC that isn't pay to win
2) Pay to win DLC
3) No further development
4) Take a loss

Of the first two, at least the DLC isn't pay to win.

Too bad it was all just for milking the player base and funding others game cause the uptades we got after that day are ♥♥♥♥ maybe except for the matriarch, so we actually got Paid DLC with little to non much further devlopment. Try again

Moreover if your position held any water then why aren't the DLC items cheaper? They have run more than a few sales since the zedconomy, if they were making more money then they would have just made the sales permanent.

I would've taken; players not being educated enough.
I would've taken: people sucking at HoE.
I would've taken: players not knowing their role.
I would've taken: people not acknowledging the ZED they are supposed to shoot.
I would've taken: players not being able to support you during a QP/SC/FP takedown which you could've killed together easily.

But you opted for judging their game based on market strategies, that's the real (I wasn't even interested in your game to begin with) statement here.

Hmm all the comments here but still.. i can't understand why stop playing just because of DLC weapons.
Don't buy them, and play with the 100 free ones. It's not that kf2 is the first game with DLCs and while its true, they are expensive... they don't offer anything important new to the game. Even the good ones like blunderbuss or frost fang.

To boycott a game you already payed for just because of DLC seems a little bit childish for me.

They got their money from selling their DLCs yet I have seen none of those new "things" or barely any improvement in over a year.

It's like if you get fat promotions and tips at work for doing the bare minimum. Much money for zero effort. Something keeps smelling fishy here.

when pragmatism sounds childish to you... ok

Fact is... you already payed for the game.
As long as you don't pay for anything more TWI won't get more money from you.
You are no important costumer anymore when you don't buy new stuff.
So... there is no reason to stop playing just because of you can't play with dlc weapons.

You can call me childish, and TWI greedy, but no one works for free. If you want updates... even if they are not the best... someone has to pay the software developers. Thats how world is working.

Well, other games, like DRG, manages to add new things constantly without selling guns for 10 bucks while releasing community maps.

Like KF2 did also over years. Many forget this.

But it's old now... it won't sell like DRG do currently.
DRG will sell more copies as long they hold the game alive.
Thats not happening on KF2 anymore.
When DRG sell just as many copies as KF2 they will also stop free updates in a few years.

No? I've played since early access and updates were always kinda lackluster, they even scrapped class. Game wasn't free to play. And they added lootboxes to it, even before leaving early access. And without a way to get them through ingame means. It only goes downhill since then.

Paid weapon DLC is lame but at least they went through the effort to make them shared, so not as bad as KF1 in that regard.

Loot boxes, no excuse for that nonsense in a game with a price tag. Also highly unethical.

Now these two things bad as they are weren't enough reason for me to severely curtail my play time, no, it was all the imo horrible gameplay updates. Edars, Upgrade system, Survivalist perk to name a few, now those killed the game for me.
