On topic: yeah listen servers would deffo be sweet, idk why Tripwire are not following this up. Unless they're renting out dedicated servers to people and want to monopolise/make money that way? It would be a LOT less painful playing with your friend if listen servers were brought back, I know my aim isn't garbage but on 175ping I can't aim for s***.
They don't want the forum flooded with complaints about poor performance from people hosting a listen server without enough grunt to do so. It's much more viable to simply rely on dedicated servers for the moment.
It also verifies that you don't have infinity+ 1 person listen servers clogging up the browser, which reduces the felt effect of a smaller playerbase. Killing floor averages a couple thousand players average on any given day. When you only have 20-30 servers per difficulty, that's not a problem. When you've got every tom ♥♥♥♥ and harry hosting a listen server, none of them will really fill, and having all those spare servers showing up in the browser as only one person in the room makes the game look more dead/the community more toxic than it actually is.
Get out of the stone age.
Edit:lowest ping 100 but I can play other games with 60-70 ping like Paladins
Thousands of indie arcade games with a lot less funding than KF2 allow this, especially on the Unreal Engine.
I feel like they just don't want players to be able to do it. Trying to use Server takeover is garbage and it always either doesn't give you what you want, or it puts you into servers with terrible ping. So you are forced to use the server browser.

On my machine it isn't....I appreciate others won't have a 1080 and/or SSD + decent connection to spare but still, shouldn't be *too* bad? Well, once TWI optimise their game better anyway, I should NOT be having frame drops on Ultra settings. :/
Surely there's a way for TWI to hardcode filter them from Server Browser if the user sets his Listen Server settings to private (which should be DEFAULT setting imho)? Filters already exist, like not empty, not full, not passworded (afaik? KF1 had that). If hardcoding them is too much of a pain for inviting people then have the filter visible instead to hide all Listen servers and set it default to on.
Each problem has a solution, we just have to put our minds together and solve it. :)
