I have a gift copy?

I bought the deluxe edition today on sale, and it includes a copy of kf1 as well if i recall. but kf1 and 2 were added to my library, and i have an extra copy of kf1 in my inventory. is that supposed to happen? is it safe to give away?

Maybe you already owned a copy of KF1. Then, your additional key would automatically go to your inventory.

Did you try to add it on library? If you have it on library then you probably got it from a bundle.For example i had kf1 before they release kf2 and when i bought steelbook edition i got an extra copy as well

Yes, everyone received a copy of kf1 after buying deluxe edition. It's included in the price and it's all yours, so it is safe. Feel free to give it away to whoever you want.

Didn't you say you added kf1 to your library? If so, game will remain there no matter what. If you still have 2 copies of kf1 left in inventory and the game in your library already, you can give away both the copies in your inventory.

Well, yeah. I bought Kf1 from the deluxe edition of Kf2, and to my surprise i got and extra copy of kf1. So I'm worried that if I give it away I'll lose it.

I bought the Digital Deluxe Edition of Killing Floor 2. Prior to that, I'd never owned Killing Floor or Killing Floor 2.

I ended up with the Killing Floor 2 Digital Deluxe Edition, Killing Floor, and a gift copy of Killing Floor with the Defence Alliance 2 mod.

In my understanding, the copy of Killing Floor registered to your account and the Killing Floor Gift item in your Steam inventory are two separate things. It should be safe to give away the Killing Floor Gift item. It's not as if you'll lose the ability to play Killing Floor once you give away the gift copy. That would be absurd.

If KF1 is permanently in your library, then you should have an extra copy within your Steam inventory for your friend or just give it away.

same here just appeared and I did not own a copy of KF1 prior to purchasing deluxe KF2....

Probably due to it's age they want more people with the KF1 base game hoping this will increase sales of KF1 DLC's which total £80/$90.....always about the Benjamins!!
