How I fixed Access Violation / Out of memory crash

At first, sorry for my english.

Eador MotBW is a great game but it has critical bug which can ruin your campaign and make you remove the game.
So I recently encountered error which crashed my game during campaign: Access Violation and sometimes Out of Memory crash.
After days of searching and experiments I solved it, so I want to share my experience.

My OS: Windows 10

When it crashed:
1. I loaded autosave in Astral, chose new map. Had my first turn: bought hero and etc, pressed 'Next turn' and... Game Crashed!
2. Tried loading my last autosave on new map and... Game crashed! Autosaves seemed corrupted.
Last Astral autosave still worked and I could start new game.

How I fixed it:
I assumed that the crash is connected with autosave engine so what I did:
1. Deleted all old autosave files from Eador folder in Documents except Campaign Autosaves (Astral);
2. Turned off autosaves in startup game options;
3. Deleted same autosaves as in step 1 inside the game;

Then I loaded my last astral autosave and started new map. After several turns game didn't crash. Yay! So I successfully won map without any errors, all seems OK. I use only manual saves now.

Often the crash can be evaded just by doing some things differently each time you play so it's necessarily about autosaves.

But please report if you don't get anymore crashes ever. It would be wonderful if disabling autosaves would solve the problem completely.

somehow I was expecting the whole time while reading, it will end with "...and then I just threw my PC out of the window".. so called defenestration.

You can prevent crashes by saving loading manually, dont use autosaves, crash related to autosave are a knowed bug in most games.

Completed 2 shards with no crashes :)

Did turning off autosaves help you with crashes?

i dunno if, but i know certainly saving and loading the game manually helps a lot.

As I promised: I finished 5-8 more shards, no crashes. Steps above fixed my problem

Lucky you, as for me, it is a no go. Been saving and loading manually this whole time and still, Access Violation. It seems to happen after a battle is won, or during the choices after a turn. I can go, "usually" for about an hour before a AV. Every two years I come back to the game hoping for the best but as always, get a visit from Access Violation department. Truly do enjoy the game but, already near my limit; just wish I could take it off completely from my game list, instead of just hiding it.

but people, when you decide to play some huge long time map, you really cant do without autosaves, so even i believe you are right, this solution is somewhat for nothing
