soon will be the 25th of Quake 2.It's likely that something will happen. Q2 RTX is more of a fan project picked up by nvidia.
I'd honestly rather Quake 2 getting a much more deserved full on remake.
With how well Half Life Black Mesa went, people have shown they are up for a remade/re-envisioned FPS that tells a story without cutscenes or massive dialogue
Perhaps best of all, the cross-platform multiplayer (and renewed attention to the game) means old-school Quake Deatmatch is back, baby! Seriously fraggin' awesome. (sorry bad pun). But still, even after loads of Battlefield, CoD, etc. heck even UT and Quake 3/Live, there's something special about Quake 1's deathmatch that makes it some of the best, most fun deathmatch fragging experience of all time. And now thanks to the source port, it's alive again!!!
Quake II on the Yamagi source port has always 1 server running at least, from tastyspleen.net. Which is cool, but if we could get an official source port re-release from id, I imagine we'd see an increase in both server count and players for Quake II. Bring this baby back too!!!
We already had a remake of sorts/sequel for Quake 2...that was Quake 4.
Do we *really* need another?
If you're going to make a new Quake, make it a new setting.
Original Quake II is fine as is. But a high quality source port with more modern features to make it accessible to more people could really help restore its online playerbase.
