Yamagi Quake not working

I followed the instructions on this site. https://github.com/yquake2/yquake2/blob/8bcb8f849c76c06d1f9df983d8c0c9bafb65d534/doc/02_installation.md
But when I try booting yquake2.exe or quake2.exe, it says couldn't load pics/conchars.pcx and closes. Any ideas?

Use this patch instead. It includes Yamagi and the music. Easily the easiest way to install everything.

1) What patch? And is up to date with the version of yagami?

at this point i can't remember exactly where but do a quick search and get the patch for the sourceport that includes the music too is my suggestion as well. it will take some fiddling but you can get the game and expansions all working. however making 3 custom launch shortcuts is WAY easier than trying to get them to launch through steam itself.

renaming the .exe would cause Steam no end of troubles for me but after something like 6hrs i've finally got quake 1 and 2 running. quake 4 is another mess.

you don't need the yamagi patch

This game is already patched with an OpenGL driver.

you don't need the yamagi patch

This game is already patched with an OpenGL driver.

Not a very good one judging by the amount of people this crashes for without using modifications to get it working.
