Easy Quake 2 Vanilla Build

Quake 2 as "Vanilla" as possible on a modern setup, with Original Soundtrack, Widescreen and Upscaled Textures.

Source Port

-Go to https://www.yamagi.org/quake2/, scroll down, and download the latest release of the "PRECOMPILED WINDOWS BINARIES" in the "OFFICIAL DOWNLOADS" (Currently 8.41).

-Extract it (7-zip), then paste the contents of "quake2- 8.41" in your "steamapps/common/Quake2" folder, this will replace existing files.

Music

The OST files are not included in the Steam release, here is the fix:

-Go to https://thathomestar.tumblr.com/post/175310498677/quake-and-quake-2-soundtrack-download-links.

-Download the "Quake 2 + Mission Packs Soundtrack", extract it, then paste the "music" folder into your "steamapps/common/Quake2/baseq2/" folder.

AI Upscaled Textures (Optional)

-Go to https://www.moddb.com/mods/quake-2-neural-upscale

-Download the latest release, extract it, then paste the ".pkz" files into your "steamapps/common/Quake2/baseq2/" folder.

-RENAME THE ".pkz" FILES TO ".zip", else they wont be detected.

Profit

-You can launch Quake 2 and the Mission Packs directly from your Steam Library.

-You need to set the video renderer to OpenGL, then configure your resolution.

-I advise to play without Vertical Synchronisation, the game will lock at 300FPS.

-I also advise 8x multisampling, wich is sufficient to get rid of any aliasing.

There is a .cfg file for the base game and another one for each Mission Pack, they are placed into your "Users/Username/Documents/YamagiQ2" folder.

The "baseq2" subfolder is for the base game, the "rogue" one (no pun intended) is for Ground Zero and the "xatrix" one is for The Reckoning.

It works with both, but was made when enhanced was not a thing, honestly I'll advise to just play enhanced as is, it has updated models and the OST is playing as intended. GLHF man.
