Classic FFXI Server - Horizon

Just a reminder that FFXI has a classic fan server Horizon opening on December 17th 2022, which is basically going to relive FFXI from it's 2004 launch up until current content with a permanent level 75 cap, meaning the game-ruining 99 level cap set after Abyssea will be regeared to function entirely with level 75 gear, so all of your gear will be relevant forever. It's gonna be massive, I highly encourage anyone who missed the original FF11 (or yearns for the golden years) boat give it a shot!

And it's free! And Square Enix isn't interested in pursuing a classic server (since it would cost too much and be too much work and FF14 already makes infinite money from casuals), so you don't have to worry about losing anything in a cease & desist order. And the folks working on it are very talented programmers who have been doing this for years on other private servers.

Controllers work really well in FFXI. When I play, I use a controller and use my keyboard to type.

Yeah I just use a controller and put it down if I need to type something, or lay it in my lap.

if those guy can put back the old way like lvl 75 cap, 1 thing i hate on this game is npc give Quest, i wich dev add "ICON" top of the npc head with that i dont need to run all the city to talk all of them. they did with FF14 but note FF11.......

Ops 100 percent on point for XIV. I'm glad it makes money for SE but it's largely a digital dress-up chat room

This was short lived. This server isn't worth it. Sad community and maintenance on a Friday Night. Pretty bad decision and stupid move.

just a thought. People tried something similar to this for basically every MMO that exists..
barring a few exceptions, most of the people making these private servers get sued, shut down etc. the audacity one must have to post about this private server on the games store forums. what a joke.

It's just a private server man, chill. It doesn't affect your life in any way just by existing. FFXI private servers have existed for years now, and if Square Enix minded they would have shut them all down a long time ago.

No idea what you're saying nor am I interested in continuing to talk about piracy. It's probably costing the devs of this game around $1 million/month just to stay in operation. Your measly $15 one time payment when the game went on sale is not helping them keep the game going. If you think it is..well that's sad.

Unless you don't have a life and want to spend literally 12 hours to get almost SOMETHING done, I would stay the ♥♥♥♥ away from that server. If SE fixed it's assy PoL log-in ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, more people would play this. I think folks are running on nostalgia, and XIV is on a content lull. It's not really that fun at all and I've played Classic WoW and it's slowness, XI is 100x slower and everything you do feels like a chore. I gave it a shot at least. On the plus, the players and Discord are helpful and friendly. The game is just too damn old for it to be fun and I rather have the QoL. Ah well.

I wouldn't say difficult, just tedious. Not that that's a bad thing.
