There once was a game series called Dungeon Keeper. Many years ago. It was pretty successful and i dont know why but they never finished developing Dungeon Keeper 3.
The development title was: Dungeon Keeper 3 - War for the Overworld.
Since EA has the rights on the Dungeon Keeper IP they can't call their game Dungeon Keeper 3 and i doubt they'd even want it. Hence the Name War for the Overworld because this game is kind of a spiritual successor to the Dungeon Keeper series many people (including me) were waiting for for a long time.
Not really into the whole 'gimmicks' thing to build up your power, nor fattening up the enemies to milk them. That sort of implanted a negative impression of the Dungeons series in my mind.
Well, that's my own opinion. So far War for the Overworld seems to be closer to the original Dungeon Keeper 2, which might be just what I am looking for.
Edit: Maybe 'War for the Underworld' suits it better? LOL!
Regardless, I'm getting both. :)
Me too, dungeons1, 2 , their extensions, WFTO, Dwelvers, and DK1 & 2 !
And DF, but this is another story...
It seems to me that Dwelvers is DF inspired.
Interesting bit of information, thanks Evil.
It was a typical Kalypso product, great concept, terrible execution, so unless they learned a great deal since then, I wouldnt expect much from Dungeons 2
Impire was ok. But the problem for me is I just wanted a Dungeon Keeper 3 so it's hard to be unbiased.
Glad this game so far plays out like DK.
EA's last foray into the realms of the horny one was DK mobile, a vacuous appstore cowclicker. I think they've burned their bridges with the series.
You don't kill floors in Killing Floor
No sleeping dogs in Sleeping Dogs
Germany is actually quite hygienic
Simcity 2013 only lets you manage towns
Nobody plays as a team in Team Fortress
etc

Sure it was asthetically similar, but Dungeons can be summed up like this. You decorate walls with books and candles and put down piles of gold. Heroes then enter through a door, look at the books and candles, and try to steal your gold. Once their happiness meter is full, you run out at the last minute and kill them before they exit the dungeon, so that you can decorate the walls with more books and candles and lay down more piles of gold.
And pretty much everything you unlock serves this exact functuon. Monsters don't have an AI beyond standing in one place and auto attacking heroes that come near so that heroes can kill to fill up their happiness meter. Traps are there mainly for rogues to disarm to fill their happiness meter. Arcane Tomes are there for wizards to fill their happiness meter. It's all basically the same as placing books and candles on the wall and placing down gold.
Nothing at all like Dungeon Keeper. I don't know about Dungeons 2 but Dungeons should have been an IOS game on a mobile device.
