I just cycle in the offered order.
----basically, here's how I play these games;
Mission 1 Hard -> ranger
Mission 1 Hard -> wing diver
Mission 1 Hard -> Air Raider
Mission 1 Hard -> Fencer
Mission 2 Hard -> ranger
Mission 2 Hard -> wing diver
Mission 2 Hard -> Air Raider
Mission 2 Hard -> Fencer
Mission 3 Hard -> ranger
Mission 3 Hard -> wing diver
Mission 3 Hard -> Air Raider
Mission 3 Hard -> Fencer
Mission 4 Hard -> ranger
Mission 4 Hard -> wing diver
Mission 4 Hard -> Air Raider
Mission 4 Hard -> Fencer
etc.
Yes, I play hardmode the first time since this is the highest offered difficulty.
No, I don't want to get ahead with one class, because that would give me a more powerful weapon. The problem with this is that the challenges then break. This weapon may make the game easier on a specific class.
My method seems to make the game's challenge level very balanced. Although, that said at some point you will start to feel you may have a bit too much armor (the game becomes a bit easy).
Basically I end the game on the 'first playthrough' at the final mission as such 4 times in a row. So, I end up clearing it on all classes.
A better question is, which is my favorite class:
Wing Diver
Which is the easiest class:
Ranger
Which is the most fun to play:
Air Raider ---> lots of fun options, can be the hardest to play
Which is the most interesting to play:
Fencer. ---> requires skills, timing, etc.
Online mode, Fencer, because initially he's really hard to use.
I plan to jump into online mode right away.
I know Ranger is "the guy", but the clunk, scale and galaxy brain maneuvers of those two classes embody EDF to me.
Unless you've seen a summary and/or really have your heart set on it, I'd kinda recommend doing EDF5 first.
6 is a direct continuation of 5 (duh) in both story -which is more wild than you'd expect if you pay attention- and intensity.
From what I've seen, the opening hours of 6 are roughly as intense as the middle of 5, which I guess could be a plus.
It's also ~1/3 the price on sale.
Absolutely no place of mine to tell you what to do with your money, of course.
Because nothing beats danger close with orbital kill sats and bombing runs.
It's just not a good mission if everyone leaves with their eyebrows intact.
