Best A Class Tank?
So I'm thinking of doing a bit more online racing pretty soon, and with that in view I've been trying to build some cars which I may be vaguely competitive in. Ideally I'm looking for a racer (light armour, max performance) and a heavy-hitter (max armour, lower priority performance) in each class, so I have something for whatever game mode I may play in.

I already have a few good tanks in both C and B classes, and I've found a couple of decent racers in those classes too. And just earlier I bought the Sunrise Super, which I really like the handling of and am thinking of using as an A class racer.

But one thing I'm struggling to find is an A class tank. I haven't yet completed the game, so money is still a bit of a limiting factor for me, and I don't yet have the resources to just buy everything and see what works. And all the cars I do have currently drop down to B class when maxed on armour, even if I cap off their performance too.

So I figured I'd ask for suggestions. What top-end vehicles have you found to be really good heavy-hitters, and why? What levels of upgrades would you recommend? Ideally I'm looking for something reasonably stable and not too snappy in handling, because while I have played racing games for years I would say I'm still only an average driver and struggle with cars that easily unsettle the rear. And something that can survive some major hits and keep on going, while still being relatively competitive in the speed department (doesn't have to outpace everything as it would be used in No Rules lobbies where dive bombs are a thing for slowing faster cars lol).

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks^^

I noticed that one yeah, seems to have some nice speed and power, but how is it in the handling department?

I agree that the limo is a great tank, but it's a bit slow...in A class it'd be rather outpaced. I don't mind a car which is slightly slower than some others as you can use brute force to make up for it, but if a car falls so far behind on the straights that it can't use it's muscle in the corners, it wouldn't really be all that competitive would it? Surely you'd need something with at least a bit of go as well as armour?

Although the Roadcutter is the default choice, it's not the only choice.

A Bandit or Ripper would be perfect. They're extremely fast in a straight line, even with armour. And they can both weigh as much as a Gatecrasher, while being a lot faster and more mobile. The only problem is they're rare cars; Bandits are Beta-Backer only and Rippers are Season Pass reward cars. Bandits haven't been available for ages and never will be again. Rippers I don't know. Maybe? still available with the season pass?

A Venom would also be ideal. Again, it's a heavy(1.8 tons) but extremely fast car with good armour options. And it's free! you get one as a late campaign reward. If you liked the El Matador, the Venom has a similar feel to it. My only warning with the Venom, is it can a tricky car to drive on loose surfaces owing to a lot of wheelspin.

A Gatecrasher would be a more combat oriented choice. These match the Ripper for weight and durability, but unfortunately don't match it for speed or handling. It's a *tank* and it handles like a tank. I recommend loaning one and seeing if you can make it work for you, rather than buying outright.

A SpeedDemon is a more race oriented choice. Although it's a surprisingly tough car even without armour, and with it makes a counter-stereotypicaly great wrecking machine. It's very quick and handles well, on and off road. It's also pleasantly easy to set up, and quite easy to drive fast. If you liked the Dominator, this has vaguely similar handling and combat ability.

Lastly, you have the DLC Hornet. Again it's not a car you would suspect of being a wrecking machine, but they fight pretty well. And it has a good top speed and handling as well. It's a little light for a combat car, but the durability is there.

If start adding a bunch armor,, you just going slow your car down.

I like my warwagon with a little armor. It don't get knock around much, for the rough tracks like fig8. :)

Front and back light bumpers, no side protectors.

well you can build up a speedemon to this:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1924564147

cornering 5.0 is really good to handle, accer is good enough, top speed is not so good, but you hold your line, thats the thing.

the only unlikly thing @ speedemon, the engine sound :-(.

Thanks for all the tips everyone^^ I never realised the Speedemon got so much armour, thought it was a pure speed machine. That might be something to look at. And I do have the season pass Bandit Ripper V8 - when I tried it in the past it was very leery so I didn't think much of it when considering this, but you're right that adding some armour to it will also add weight, which may make it more planted and stable.

One query though: Wolfey mentioned a car named Venom...is that a car that you can only win, not buy from the store? I can't seem to find it in the market at all, and I haven't gotten far enough in the career to unlock it as a prize yet.

The Venom is the prize for winning the very last race of the last campaign. C3 Corvette with big block power and a four speed, yum yum!

Yes, you win the Venom as a prize for finishing the last race in Campaign. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it. It's a great all-rounder, with a good mix of stats. It doesn't do anything badly, and it does a lot of things very well.

As for the Bandits; they're both very sensitive to setup. If you're struggling with it, try some different settings. I find that stiffening the suspension and running a short gearbox and a more open diff turns them into excellent race cars. I set a lot of my PBs in the Bandit.
