Loading a quicksave should let you end the run
When you quicksave, you haven't decided to bet forward yet. When you load it though, it takes you to mission select as though you had bet forward.

This is probably fine most of the time, but if you did a quicksave, and later you want to play with friends, you are forced to eat the loss of half your skulls. You can't join a co-op game or it will delete your save, and you can't load the game and choose to retire the run, so you're just stuck.

I don't disagree. You're right that I think it should just take you back into the original menu of either decide to gamble or return to fortress.

I'll only add one small caveat that getting skulls is really not a big deal in this game. So on the surface I do agree with your overall point, and it should change. But it being my additional 2 cents, its okay to lose those skulls. You'll get those back in a hurry. Do a 5-10 mission run and the skulls will add up really really, really fast.

Also, tbh, joining a co-op game shouldn't delete your quicksave. Like, if you've just finished mission 10 and are still going strong and your friends are like "Hey, wanna play co-op?" you shouldn't have to choose between continuing the solo run or joining your friends. Should be able to quicksave, go play with your friends, and then load up the solo run again later to finish it up.

The save system needs a big overhaul

They really need to make it into a system like lethal company, where you can store up to three saved runs as host. I guess losing one of your players down the line is kinda jank where you need to keep track of their thread upgrades, but you should be able to just have someone take over between missions.

It'll be interesting to take over for someone, and see what threads and traps they've picked.

If you want to "end the run" then you should be able to pick "play" at the main menu to end the run and return to fortress. Afaik picking the quick save option doesn't force you to play when you come back in your example if your friends want you to play then just load the game, press play game to take your winnings and go back to the fortress. I will agree that it could be made more intuitive but the option to bank or gamble is there at the main menu after quick saving and asks you for confirmation on both choices.

Hitting quicksave counts as having hit "bet forward". If you hit "play" instead of load when you have a quicksave, it does end that run, but costs half the skulls you'd accumulated.

that isnt true though, clicking play takes you back as if you went back to the fortress instead of gambling forward, you get your full amount

like we can any day of the week agree that its not intuitive that you need to quick play instead of load, but its objectively untrue that you are scammed out of half of yuore skull.

FYI you can't even put your PC to hibernation while the game is running, it will abandon your run.

Hmm, OK. I'm absolutely certain that I had half my skulls taken when I joined co-op while I had a saved run pending once, but that was before the latest update (Possibly before 1.08 even).

But good to know that's definitely no longer the case.

"We" is the problem there, its only a single player option at the moment.

Thanks that was what I afraid for it is only single option. Thank you
I would like to be able to end the run after seeing the map choices. there has been more then a few times I have been willing to take the skull loss to just not play a map. So I have to waste time loading in the map and quitting afterwards. It would save me time to be able to eat the skull loss and go back to the fortress or even have a 1k skull cost to reroll the maps.
