Same question I have. Was ridiculous it didn’t come to PC day one originally now it is even more odd the more Star Ocean games get ported to PC.

Hopefully we get First Departure R on PC... Square Enix's release strategy is ridiculous, with them releasing each game on only 1 or 2 platforms.

Yup, it's strange to see them not announcing both, the switch however now has them, so bringing this to that console is the logical move.

Each Star Ocean is its own story and doesn't feature other characters from other games. However they do take place in the same universe, sometimes hundreds of years apart.

Technically yes. Claude's parents are secondary characters in First Departure (it's left open-ended who's his mother), but doesn't directly relate to 2nd Story's plot.

First Departure is a remake of the first Star Ocean game, this is a remake of the second Star Ocean game.
There's connections, and they happen in the same universe, but you don't NEED to know anything about the first game to enjoy this.

If you played First Departure or to a lesser extent, The Last Hope, you'll probably recognize character references, but otherwise the games are entirely separate. In fact, this was the first Star Ocean released outside of Japan; the PSP port of First Departure was the first time it left Japan, whereas the Second Story was released internationally in 1998.

I was disappointed when First Deparure R got a PS4 and Switch release but no PC release, same with Valkyrie Profile
