Awfully bad performance
Hello,
I'd really like to like this game but I get a real bad performance sometimes. My FPS drops from 60 to 30 immediately for no apparant reason. I installed the newest graphic cards driver, tried several .ini tweaks for quad core optimization but nothing works.

I set it to medium and turned AA off and this still happens.

I can play other AA titles like Skyrim on High with 2xAA on with constant 60FPS and various high texture mods.

Is the game engine really that random for each PC?

Specs
Windows 7 64bit
Radeon 5870 HD
Intel Core i7 920
6GB RAM

*update*

Found a solution. For those with similar problems, try to turn off "Multisampling transparency" in the Fallout 3 launcher. I've also set all water option to the lowest possible, now the game runs like a charm.

Search up Fallout 3 better performance mod. Helps out a bit. First search result is the Fallout 3 nexus for the mod. Get that one.

New drivers don't always solve the problem. The Oblivion game engine may be too old to properly run on the newest graphics cards. I had the same problem with FNV and a GTX 480 card I was using last year, turns out the drivers were no longer updated with Oblivion code in mind.

That sounds like it could possibly be a V-sync issue, disabling v-sync should stop the framerate suddenly halving in performance. If you still want to prevent screen tearing you can use a program like msi afterburner to set a framerate limit.

Clean-Deluxe Mod is probably what you're looking for
