Black Screen With Weird HUD Problem
As the title says, after pressing the New Game button in the main menu, I am greeted by this lovely image: http://i.imgur.com/OpHJPkJ.png . Before this happened, I had the game crashing at startup (which I fixed with running in compatibility mode). I then started pilling on mods (FWE, Martigens's, and a few others) and that started crashing. I uninstalled all of these mods, uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and this happened.

My computer specs are:

OS: Windows 8
CPU: Intel i5-3470 3.20 GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7850
RAM: 12 gb

I'm not sure what else needs to be stated, and I will be more than happy to post more info.

I should also bring up that I tried all of the suggested fixes in the sticky, to no success.

Temperature is 35 C, and the drivers are up to date. While the card failing is a possibility, it is a nearly brand new card, and no other games are having any trouble running. And yes, the game cache has been varified.

No worries, any help at all is appreciated. I just hope that someone on here has had the same problem as me and was able to fix it.

The issue may be DirectX or .NET related, did you have this issue on a prior modless installation of FO3? After uninstalling the game when you were having mod issues, did you use something like CCleaner to correct any registry errors?

I am wondering if some of those mods corrupted a registry entry, and even after uninstalling the game, the issue still remains at the registry level.

Oh, and did you delete absolutely everything FO3 related (My Documents folder, Steam FO3 folder if necessary, saved games folder, etc.) after uninstalling?
I've updated both DirectX and .NET to the newest versions, and no new developements. Before putting mods on, this didn't happen, and the game ran just fine (after setting things to run as admin and such). I jsut ran CCleaner, and still the same issue. I don't think I deleted the My Documents folder, but I did delete everything else. I'll give that a try.

I guess the correct path would be Documents/My Games/Fallout 3. I have the retail version but I am assuming that the directories in the Documents folder would be the same. Also, are you starting a brand new game or have you loaded a saved game from a previous installation.
I'm loading a new game. I've also just deleted the Nexus Mod Loader app completely. I figure, if the problems started with mods being added, maybe that caused some issues. I'm also reinstalling completely, so that will be another 40 minutes or so.

Regardless of if this works or not, I just want to thank you for your time in this. It really means a lot to have a stranger take their time to help out.

I really hope you get it sorted Bald Eagle. I couldn't imagine not having this on my hard drive - playable of course. :)

Let us know if you get it working right will you?
Of course. I wouldn't want somebody with the same problem being out of luck.

Success! The problem (at least as far as my limited play testing has proven) has been resolved!

Steps I took to resolve the issue:
1. Deleted the Nexus Mod Loader folder (and files inside) from the Program Files directory.
2. Deleted the Fallout 3 goty fodler (and files inside) from the Steam\Steamapps\common\ folder.
3. Deleted the Fallout 3 folder (and files inside) located in the Documents\mygames folder.
4. Ran CCleaner (I'm not sure if this was a part of the fix, but CCleaner is a good application, so run it regardless).
5. Reinstalled Fallout 3 goty.

This (appears) to have solved the problem completely! If I encounter further errors, I'll post them and probably fixes I (or the community) finds.

I realize this is 5 years later, but I am certain this is an issue with a mod (or combination of mods). I am having kind of the same issue, but instead of happening when I start a new game, it happens when I start the game.

Same as in the screenshot from the OP - except without the green bars on the left and right (I get the middle red bar with a black screen). The game doesn't crash, I still hear music playing, but it is frozen. The game actually starts loading normally, then when it tries to go to the next section to load the title menu is when it happens.

The OP alse mentioned running MMM and FWE which I have both - I actually thought it was MMM, but after disabling it (and associated mods) I still had this issue. I installed MMM through the fomod (using Mod Organizer 2) and opted for the in-game options.

I have a ton of mods (following the S.T.E.P. guide found below):

http://wiki.step-project.com/User:Kelmych/Fallout3

I have been working on this guide for days and days trying to install everything exactly right - and I have done everything except a couple things I couldn't quite figure out - I am learning a ton though.

I was testing the game often after every couple of sections, but yesterday I powered through to the end of all the mods (downloading and installing to the end of the guide) and afterwards is when I had this issue.

I have all the mods organized by sections according to the S.T.E.P. guide and tested all the different sections individually and the game loaded as normal. So my issue is with a combination of mods or patches. I am troubleshooting now and will deactivate all the mods by section until I figure out which one is causing this issue.

I just wanted to add to this post being that I found it on google so many years later just in case someone else was having this same issue. I don't think I need help, as I have a ton of things I can try (too many) - although if someone knows what is going on or has any ideas, you could try to help me.

FYI, I had this problem, but just waited and it eventually started.
I have a lot of mods installed, which I assume most people do these days so I think it's just the game loading all your mods - if you wait, the game should eventually fully load and you can play.. Recommend playing this on an SSD as it takes a minute or so for it to load and be playable.

Hey friend, thanks for the comment.

I'm having the same issue and I'll try your method of just extra patience tonight :)

I have a question though, do you need to wait a minute or more when first starting a New Game OR do you have to do this each time you load a save...?
