energy weapon ammo?
hidy ho all,

i find myself running perpetually low on energy weapon ammo. Electron charge packs, microfusion power cell, the only thing I keep finding too much of is energy cells. And i've only been able to find a laser pistol.

Is there a best place to find energy weapon ammo?

if your runing low on ammo you have issues. if you just started the game you should not be useing energy weapons put small guns up then energy weapons and dont put points into any other weapons. also only energy gun you should use is lazer rifle and specal plazma riffle but mostly just lazer.

Energy weapons and ammo (except energy cells) are very rare. For some reason Bethesda made it end game material. You best bet is to simply buy your ammo from vendors. Otherwise your best bet is to loot them off of Enclave solders (as I said, it's end game material).

they made it end game cuz all other fallout games it was end game. energy guns are basicly beter than any small gun ment for the same thing and just dont use big guns.

you'll get plenty of ammo the later in the game you play. The main way to get it is to simply buy it from the various vendors that sell ammo (moira, tenpenny tower, wandering merchants, etc). You'll get so much gear you can do rounds of merchants grabbing tons of ammo/stims. Even on very hard mode you'll eventually wind up with tens of thousands of ammo you never use.
You can use anything weightless that you're not planning to use as addititional funds as well when it comes to buying ammo - so even if you don't want to use Small Guns, it's still worth looting the bullets for them off raiders and such you've killed. For me; I always took three kinds of items regardless of other considerations (other than, you know, not getting my head blown off but that one kinda goes without saying :P ) - ammo, chems and pre-war money. All three are plentiful, valuable and weightless. Perfect to use as currency. A sack full of chems and a few boxes of bullets you're never going to use can buy a lot of microfusion cells.

Yeah, I understand that. The problem is that they made energy weapons a separate skill. It would have been better if they had "pistols" versus "rifles" skills instead, so that by the time you run across your first energy weapon you can actually start using it, instead of grinding out a new skill from scratch first. And then as soon as you're halfway proficient, BOOM the game is over.

But given that Interplay had to come up with new RPG mechanics over a long weekend, I can't blame them for messing up in a few spots.

If I am ever in the position to create my own post-apocalyptic RPG, bullets will definitely be the standard of currency.

I can go with having Energy Weapons as a separate skill to ballistic weapons - lasers are effectively hitscan weapons so someone familiar with bullets will have to actively train themselves to not lead their targets or account for wind/bullet drop/etc and I'm sure a blazing bolt of plasma flies differently to a bullet. The game may not actually reflect any of those (except for not having to lead your shots with lasers), but I consider all of that to be handled and abstracted by your character's skill with the relevant weapon type.

EDIT: Besides; isn't there a laser pistol in that old grocery store Moira sends you to? In the little room off to one side at the front of the store with the medical supplies?

.... or medieval black powder. Sure, it's not as powerful, so autoloaders would have problems.

But any revolver, or lever/bolt-operated weapon? It's still a gun, isn't it?

The harder part will be the primers. I dunno how to make fulminate of mercury ...
