GOG still best version in 2022?
Three questions:

1) Is GOG still the best FO3 version in July 2022? (Windows 10, Intel i5, RAM 16Gb, Geforce 1060 GTX)
2) Can I just mod it using FOSE, Vortex etc, just like the Steam version?
3) Never bought on GOG before. Do I need the GOG Galaxy Launcher?

1) They're all workable.
2) Yes, but you won't need the downgrade patcher as you will with Steam.
3) You'll need the store, but beyond that, no, you can launch directly afaik.

Thanks. So GOG is still the best choice?

It's a choice. The choice that works best for you is the best choice. For me, that's Steam. I have the GOG version purely to use it to create TTW files. If that's something you're interested in, install the GOG version first, do the TTW setup, then install the Steam version and mod it as desired.

Yes GOG version is still the best, i have play fallout 3 GOG version on 3 PC's and all of them works perfectly fine. Although steam version is also not that hard to fix but for people who don't like fiddling around GOG version is the best, you don't need GOG launcher to play the games on GOG, if you need cloud sync & other features then its your choice whether you want to launch the game with GOG launcher or not

Thanks to you both! I'll go for the GOG version then.

GOG just pre-patched the game with 4GB Patch and tweaked a few lines in the Fallout.ini. Nothing you can't do by yourself. Yeah, the "best" version.

Exactly. :cozybethesda:

If you want your games consolidated on a single platform where you're a verified game owner on the forums and can upload screenshots, etc., then Steam is the "best" version. In terms of "just get it working", there's about a 2-3 minute difference in setup. To me, that doesn't exactly separate one version from another in terms of "best".
