-How old is the save, a week ago, or 2 years ago?
-Have you made any changes to FO3, like add or remove a mod?
-Have you made any changes to your Computer since you last played/saved, like update Windows, other drivers, or your anti-virus software?
-Hardware changes, like new video card since last save?
the save is a few months old.
i've never used mods in this save.
i dont think i have?
and no hardware changes.
It may help reduce the chance of corrupted saves, if you do a manual full save before exiting the game. I am not assuming how you do close the game, but letting the game do an auto-save when you click exit, then trying to "continue" next play, rather than "load" a manually saved file, OR loading the "exit" save can cause corruptions that get carried forward until it just gets too corrupted to open anymore.
If you only had to go back one save, that is indeed probably the case, and would definitely corrupt a save.
