Toughness perk, how many ranks?
Does it really have only one rank?
Don't get how one should get up to 85% damage res without many ranks of this perk. Am i missing something?

From what I recall, it's 10% per rank, up to 85%. So maximum benefit, after 9 ranks, is 85%. It will take you, in other word, 9 level ups to get there. IIRC, level cap for the unmodded GOTY is 30. So that would be just shy of 1/3 of all of your possible level ups.

This is what i was afraid of. I have one rank of it but it is missing from my perk list upon leveling up.

What to do?

Well, unless you plan on running naked into gun fire, I'd say just move on and pick something else. The game is easy enough that you really don't need it. Personally, I find the rad reduction perks much more valuable. But even still, not necessary.

I have enough stimpacks that is for sure... hopefully. But this bug annoys me since looking up those coming perks, there are few must haves but otherwise it is kinda junk, and was looking forward to keep on using light armor -the RPG element- and still be able to tank heavy fire :steamhappy:

In hopes that some modder picks this up and decides to help, here is recent save file... just kill those 3 super mutants on upper level to level up

Really would like to know what has caused this bug and what else might happen
Thanks in advance!

There is no doubt that FO3 is flaky. I could be wrong on multiple ranks, but I don't think so. It can get wonky at times. For example, I completed the Project Purity quest line last night with the PC entering. Although this is the GOTY, and Broken Steel was installed, and running, I got the ooooold pre-DLC ending. Twice. From the same save I save right before trying. Third time was the charm. I also, for whatever reason, sometimes have a drop (X) button when using a controller, and sometimes don't. No rhyme or reason to it.

If your suggestion was to keep on hammering that level up, then i have done that but no luck. Still no toughness perk on the list.

Looking for some editor that runs on linux to manually try and edit the save file. All tips& tricks are welcome!

^^^ Was just coming back to post exactly that. I leveled up twice last night and remembered to take Toughness the first time and look for it the second time, it's 1 level, 10%. If that 10% would take you over 85% cumulative max, it stops at the max of 85%.

Well, that kinda sucks. Was looking forward to using just normal clothes :steamsad:
But at least now i don't have to restart or modify save file... saves a lot of trouble. Found my way to some wiki yesterday

You can still create an ultra tough PC that can probably make it through to end game. You just have to concentrate on END, AGI, and LUC, and then take all of the bonus defensive buff perks immediately and use the armored vault suit. You won't be able to tank in, but with a run/sprint mod, you can easily lay mines and kite your way to victory.

Well, those mods and the 6% Dam Res from "Survival Guru" will have to wait until i get this vanilla play-through done and after that the gog version relaunching. Oh, the RPG-element strikes back :steamhappy:

Got my specials kinda right with bobbleheads to str and int

Will take almost perfect perk upon leveling to 30, if i ever make it that far

BTW; Heard any chatter about a mod that lets you unleash the whole vats swarm of bullets in real time, with out looking every shot and crit effect each time?
kdodds Aug 28, 2021 @ 6:50pm
There are two I know of. Search Fast VATS on Nexus. One is just speedy and the other slows down for the dramatic kill cams/crits.

Thank you kdodds,
Will try that one tho it is not quite what i was looking for. Maybe i am looking for a perk. Something like
Rifle profiency (LVL 12)- Handling rifles has become the second nature for you, and now you hop in-and-out of vats just to mark the target before unleashing superhuman swarm of bullets at your enemys weak points.
