20th anniversary update discussion thread
discuss whatever related about recent new update
might as well put in some critique of my own. EDIT: changed up critique since i was tired. honestly bug fixes are fantastic and load times are noticeably improved by a LOT. Cat silencer expansion is a pleasant change but I'd recommend just changing the amount of Glock/MP5 ammo pickup count should be reduced a little. (not too much, not too little like in OG postal 2)

Most of the content and changes in this update comes from "xPatch" my fan made mod. POSTAL 2 had pretty tightly balanced weapons. Well at least before the Steam release which added various weapons from Eternal Damnation mod and it was done a bit half-assed way, they had a lot of bugs, references to missing resources and balancing them to fit in with 'vanilla' weapons was non existent. I am a perfectionist so I didn't like the lack of balance of the weapons as well as I didn't like the bugs so blame me on that lol. But I know that there are many people who found the lack of balance "fun". I probably won't add a option in game to change it but I might make a workshop mod that will revert the old (non)balancing of ED weapons.

PS. As for the ammo, it felt too hard to get enough of it previously, I guess I overdid it a little haha. Will look into balancing it properly. There are still some smaller patches coming soon.

I'm all for giving players the option to revert a lot of the stuff related to xPatch, I've never used it and I'm really missing the way things were, why was it ever merged in the first place when it was surely working fine for people to just use the mod? I'm sure I'm not alone in desiring a single checkbox to disable it all, ludicrous difficulty and the AW vending machines are all I'm enjoying, though it's a shame you seemingly can't buy the AW weapons despite this being the easiest way to implement them into the main campaign
*Paradise Lost, not AW
Where do I find FOV? It used to be in Video settings (i think) but I can't see it anymore.

EDIT: It's in Performance.

It runs optimized on steam deck but it still crashed in less than 5 minutes. *le sigh*

I haven't booted up the game for a while, but when I saw the new 20 year old anniversary, I figured that I'd mess around some more in paradise; I recalled using the shears to one shot just about every enemy, but now it needs at least 2 hits on cops. did I misremember it's one shot properties, or did this update reduce its damage thanks to the integration of xPatch? if its the latter, is there any way to revert these changes?

This update pretty much rebalanced all melee weapons. In the meantime, i recommend switching back to beta 5023 or 5024 if you don't like it as i do.

Man Chrzan will work on a workshop mod that reverts back the original stats for the anniversary update in the near future.

I will miss the funny OP melee weapons, but people have to keep in mind the game had better balance before originally when edged weapons didn't even exist.

Those weapons being ported back into P2 in the first place is what broke the balance, and even then if I recall NPC's in the original AWP mod could block your hits. This should have been done a long time ago, but since people got attached to running through the game with melee of course they'll be able to mod it.

They really should have done it way earlier. I'm not exactly an original POSTAL 2 fan as i've been playing this game only since 2017 so is pretty understandable that in six years i just got too used to this "unbalanced balanced" of sort.

But eh,as long there is a way to play older versions and mods i don't mind the new balance.
Well, considering it already existed as a mod just fine, simply forcing it to be mandatory for all users until an anti-mod comes out is a pretty awful anniversary gift.

The same could be said about 2013 update which added lots of AWP mod and Eternal Damnation mod content my dude. You can revert to previous 5025 version and even to the classic 1409 version anytime you want. It's in the BETA category in game properties.

PS. What anti-mod? It would be rather a mod-mod (lol). The whole point of this melee update was to make the mod content fit in with the ORIGINAL game balancing, we even added Classic Mode.
