You could take a look at the "Hearts of Oak" under development. https://heartsofoakgame.com/

I do wish they would release the originals. I really enjoyed Sea Dogs 2: Pirates of the Caribbean but this game is far too linear for what I enjoyed about the original.

Wait for patch 1.5.

Akella is a greedy publisher just like Activision.
We'll see what Blackmark comes up with. For now it's heading for the righteous way.

If you want more naval themed games, than it's worth mentioning : Sid meier's Pirates, Naval Action, Tortuga : Two Treasures (but I don't know where can it be found anymore after 10 years), Patrician III, Port Royale 1 (2001), Silent Hunter III and IV (submarine WW2), Pacific Storm (grand strategy).

Not all of these focus on pirates, some draw their attention on trading and building colonies. Some don't feature pirates at all, but they do feature the naval theme much later in history - WW2, and it's equally cool if you like Das Boot (one of the best war films in cinematography).
Among other things there are very few naval games as a whole. So I guess it's important to pinpoint the ones that stand out.

Also music extracted from Port Royale fits so well into Sea Dogs. Never looked back after putting it in here. Very appropriate.

Additionally recommended music from a mod here, at the bottom of the guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=685033549

I don't quite get this. I've played both now. Only 9 hours in this game though. I've completed Sea Dogs 2 about 2.5 times now. This game has more depth and is in a lot of areas pretty much the same (sometimes unfortunately) as Sea Dogs 2 but better.

I think you were in the tutorial because the tutorial sucked :P. There making it better in 1.5 though as far as I heard. I'm still waiting for the 1.5 patch as I'll lose my save file anyway. I really wonder what is going on though. It takes ages and the translation was done 4 weeks ago or so?
The translation was done when the announcement went on in the game hub news.

It was March or may 2016. But definitely not four weeks ago.

I mean the translation for the entire game. Not for the Jolly Roger dlc. Apologies if I am misunderstood.

Oh, no I meant the DLC. The DLC will come with the patch as far as I understood. I'm just at a loss why it's taking so long though. Just give us a rough estimate or say what's going on without an estimate. Wonder what went wrong really. Patch and the DLC are 4 weeks later than the russian version.

I don't know if I should care about the DLC though. Don't know much about it. Patch is really interesting :). Seems I need to assume it's going to be end Januari or beginning Februari in the worst case scenario.
Take the dlc with s grain of salt.
The patch is worth it, though I wish they would configuration launxh from steam instead of roaming the game files.
The justifications for the delay might be the numerous complaints on the translation as a whole. They're a small team and yada yada...
If you're in doubt you can get the Caleuche dlc and see if you like that. Moreover it's never a thing that can be forced or anything. Strictly at your own diligence and thought.
It is indeed kinda bothersome how the devs apparently frequent only their own forums and never the Steam forums. It's not like the game is in retail internationally or on GOG.
Therefore your concerns are also shared by me. But only time will tell who's who.

Why don't they release the patch first though? We can give some feedback and see if there is anything wrong with it. Sounds a lot more logical :P. Nobody has an answe to that I guess. I just need to get some more patience. Been playing Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn lately. Fun game. Improved a lot since the initial launch. That will keep my busy I suppose.

Thanks for your replies and have fun with the game. Guess I'll just need to wait a little bit longer :P. I think it will be worth it in the end!
I think the dlc was made tied to the patch. Moreover it may be easier to roll out all at once from a programming and coding perspective.
Thing is that the Russian version had 2 hotfixes already shortly after the patch released. So I guess there were unforseen consequences to be fixed.
Enjoy Final fantasy!

Wait what? I'm not an developer or know much about coding but what do you mean the patch is tied to the DLC? I assume you don't need the DLC to patch to 1.5. If you keep that in mind how exactly is it tied? I'm not trying to prove you wrong or anything :P. I just find this a little confusing. Like I said, I'm not a someone who can do C++, Javascript or anything like that. It's also not a fact that it's tied of course. You said "I think". Just wouldn't know how that would even work in this situation.

There are always unforseen consequences :P. Fair enough though. Nobody really knows what's going on but I guess I just need to enjoy Final Fantas for now. We'll see what happens.
No the patch is free !
I mean that the dlc might ship together code wise with the patch. Think day 1 content dlc (as the argument went for Mass effect 3 for example) included physically in the data of the game. By buying you simply enable it.
That's just speculation out of the blue though.
And yeah we need to chill and enjoy life for Christ's sake. Live without regrets. Take care of ourselves. Sea Dogs won't disappear anywhere.
