rum matters woes
I'm new to the game. I started the rum matters sailing part and spent the next almost 3 hours in game time slowly trying to leave the harbor. By slow I mean the slowest kind of slow. I pressed W twice to get my sails fully open and then proceeded to lose a race to both a sea turtle and a sea snail at the same time. How the heck do I go forward?

From harbor go north towards Lament Bay It takes some time so use '+' to speed up time. You will encounter the rum ship near there. Use the ENTER menu to jump to and board the ship when you are close enough. Use the password given by the bartender. After back on longboat head back toward port till you can speed jump there then to Le Francious and anchor.

Thank you for the reply but you misunderstand. I have a time limit to finish the mission of 5:00 I believe. At 2:44 I was still in the harbor outside the town because I was going to very slow. The mission was over half over and I was still at the beginning. How do I move fast?
Moving fast still uses game time fast. Repeatedly hitting + speeds time. Save game just before getting on the long boat, if you make it to the ship by 130 there is still lots of time. Half way back you can press enter and return to St Pierre, then enter again to go to Le Francios
Use the numpad +

LOL! I reached the ship and crashed into it and died. Well at least the travelling part is figured out.
Hehehe

Whew, I got the sail to glitch. I can't get to the location where the rum needs to be delivered to. Looking around the steam forums and the internet I believe I may have a solution but I need to test it first.

Edit: I tried copy and pasteing the game to a different directory and changing the name of the folder. Still only the fort when outside the town. Also loaded a previous save. Well, I just started basically so I'll just start over.

Edit 2: In my second play I skipped rum matters and am now in my lugger and still I can only travel to the fort. Man this bug is annoying.

That was misery. I had to sail halfway around the island all the way to the pirate town and the whole time the only thing I could sail to was the fort. And the whole time I was moving really slow, even at x6.

The best speed you can hope for in the longboat is probably under 5 knots. It will be slow.

Watch the direction the wind is coming from. You can go back to the dock and then back to your ship and the wind will be different. I prefer to have the wind directly in my face when starting the trip to the Ghost. That usually puts it at a good angle to make good speed once I've gotten out of the harbor.

You won't be able to sail directly into the wind. Point your ship off to one side or the other, 45 degrees away from the wind is usually good.
