I bought this just for Time Splitters 2 on PC

Before I go into the details, I want to say I wrestled with giving this game a recommendation. I actually can now. You can basically turn this game into a first-person Assassian's Creed simulator. While this game does have a lot of action, it's actually a much better stealth game.

Some quick pros:
+beautiful
+days, nights, weather changes are awesome
+pretty fluid movement system
+takedowns never get old
+customization is a lot of fun
+gunplay is solid

I can only recommend this game within a specific set of paramters. If you're interested, read below:

1) Bought complete edition for under $15 (I got it for $7.20).
2) Play only on deathwish (hardest difficulty)
3) All hud removed

If you like a challenge AND want to have fun with this game, then I here's how I recommend going about it.

First try the game on easy with all the hud features, that way you're familiar with the mechanics. Take as much time as you need. I took about 5-6 hours, but I could have taken a lot less. I wouldn't recommend any more than 3.
Once you've got the hang of the gameplay and mechanics, START YOUR GAME OVER. (you don't have to, but I think it's worth it).
Play Voice of Freedom first on deathwish, then start the main campaign on deathwish. Remove all HUD elements and set music volume to zero.

By doing what I've suggested, you feel like you're actually fighting for your life against a massive, opressive force (namely the KPA). You have no HUD, no suggestions, no mini-map, no direction. Just you, your phone, and your pistol/whatever else, to take the USA back. I think that's the kind of experience the developers were going for, but made it too easy with all the hud elements. The game just felt so....bleh...on easy. The game provides a much more enjoyable, realistic experience with no HUD on the hardest difficulty.

I'll save you some time with this review: did you like Far Cry 3, 4, or 5? Do you want to play a mostly finished PC port of TimeSplitters 2? If either answer is yes, then you may end up liking Homefront: The Revolution. If not, you might as well skip this one, as it borrows a ton of concepts from the Far Cry series.

Homefront: The Revolution is an open world FPS made by Dambuster Studios and Deep Silver. Set in an alternate world where a technologically-advanced North Korea has occupied a crippled United States, you play as a new recruit in the Philadelphia Resistance named Ethan Brady. Along with a band of morally questionable allies, you try to liberate Philadelphia from the Korean People's Army's control and inspire America to rise up against its oppressors.

Right out the gate, I'm going to say this: the introduction to this game is horrible. It's a massive turn-off in every possible way - poor voice acting, cringe-inducing lines ("Did you know that I have superpowers?" stuck out to me the most), and a bunch of segments where you get railroaded from one scripted scene to the next. The worst part is that, since almost every character in the intro isn't relevant once the main game starts, you could easily skip past it without missing out on anything relevant to the overall plot. If you can suffer through it for 20-30 minutes, you are finally handed a gun and given free rein to do whatever you want. At that point, the game comes into its own.

The shooting and exploration mechanics are Homefront's strongest points. Almost everything about combat works fantastically - guns have a lot of punch and sound realistic, each weapon serves its own purpose, and you can heavily customize almost any weapon with sights and other gadgets. The most ridiculous feature are the gun modes: after buying a conversion kit, you can turn any gun into one of its three forms on the fly. This includes, among other things, turning a battle rifle into an automatic firework launcher or a pistol into a pneumatic dart gun. Does it make sense? Not at all! Is it fun? Definitely! This also applies to your throwable weapons, which can be given remote detonators, strapped to RC Cars, or stuffed inside teddy bears to act as proximity mines.

The open world of Homefront is divided up into red zones (ruined war zones where the KPA and Resistance openly fight each other) and yellow zones (pristine cities where the KPA maintain a firm grip over the population). In red zones, you can get into skirmishes with the KPA, capture outposts, and complete other objectives. In yellow zones, you need to blend in with crowds and work to stir up the people into revolting. The yellow zones require more planning and sneaking, as you're badly outgunned by the KPA in those areas. You often have to get down and dirty, doing things like tossing bombs at armored cars and then vanishing into a crowd or assassinating KPA soldiers that are brutalizing citizens. The split between these sections keeps the game interesting and encourages the player to explore more areas to gain an edge on the KPA.

Much like the newer Far Cry games, you can liberate outposts to give your allies more control over regions and create safe zones for yourself. However, Homefront has a good amount of variety with the ways you capture them. Sometimes, you need to infiltrate KPA strongholds to sabotage their gas supplies. Other times, you have to scrounge up medical supplies to get a hospital up and running again. There are also journal entries you can collect that expand on the game's backstory more. The journals, along with the running radio chatter you encounter as you explore, really paint a grim but captivating picture of the USA under occupation. I actually found myself caring about the dispatchers and Resistance agents as their stories unfolded over time.

The story of Homefront: The Revolution is pretty bad. Homefront is at its strongest when it lets the player do things and uncover the story on their own. Unfortunately, the game is full of scripted moments that feel out of place, and the story basically goes nowhere. I actually forgot who one major character was after I got contacted by him, as the game doesn't establish his personality until you're nearly done clearing out the first yellow zone. The twists and turns of the plot felt weak and contrived. You can tell that the game was handed off to several different companies before it finally got released. Still, it has some genuinely heartfelt moments, and I did enjoy the arguments on right and wrong that the Resistance leaders had (even if they also went nowhere).

The soundtrack to Homefront works, but it's pretty forgettable. Also, the game will take a good rig to run. It isn't as horribly optimized as it was at launch, but it definitely isn't perfect. There were also some serious bugs I encountered during my playthrough, like an outpost that couldn't be liberated. The game also underutilizes some of its features - I only encountered two Goliaths (automated tanks) and two flamethrower troopers in my run, and I only got hit with a flashbang grenade once. It wouldn't have hurt to have those threats come up more frequently.

Homefront: The Revolution is far from a perfect game, but I enjoyed it. The gunplay is fantastic, the exploration mechanics are deep, and the action is fun once it gets going. Plus, it has ALL of the contents of TimeSplitters 2 near the end of the game, unlockable through in-game cheats. How could anyone turn that down?

With all of that in mind, I would only recommend this if you enjoyed the Far Cry games and if it's 75% off or more. I would also recommend figuring out if your computer can run it before buying it. Just trudge through the intro knowing that it gets much better later on.

I just completed this game and found it to be surprisingly enjoyable, considering the "mixed" reviews. The storyline was fairly good. There are some side missions, but generally all missions advance the story line.

One thing I would recommend is to get the "gameplay" DLCs and then play the game in this order:

Homefront: The Revolution - The Voice of Freedom (DLC)
Homefront: The Revolution (Main Game)
Homefront: The Revolution - Aftermath (DLC)
Homefront: The Revolution - Beyond the Walls (DLC)

IMO, this will both allow you to get the full story, in order, AND bring you up to speed with this game's particular gameplay. Sure, the looting system, etc. was different than other games, but, IMO, easy to adjust to. Besides, I have yet to find the "perfect" system in any game as they all have their quirks.

I did have a couple lockups and crashes during the course of playing the game, but I have definitely had more from other games. I didn't find them objectionable.

Overall, I enjoyed this game and would recommend it to others. If you have a large number of crashes, it could be because of your system. I've found that a weak power supply can cause a lot of problems when a system is taxed by some games.

1000w power supply (with a single 12v rail (important!))

It's not the best hub-based "open world" shooter out there, but it does provide some entertaining scenarios that allow for a great degree of creativity. This is one of those games that requires a little more effort out of the user to get the most out of it. I will advise that there are plenty of bugs that can ruin the user experience, AI can be bad sometimes, and the system requirements to run this game are steep for many users.

+ Variety in weapons, equipment, gear, and customization
+ Economy is well done and simple
+ Recruiting and influencing the population makes you feel like you are making an impact, and rewards you
+ Tons of side quests and activities
+ Gameplay rewards tactical planning, and ambushes and surviving against the odds feels awesome
+ The game looks really good

+- AI may go from doing a great job to taking a dump on itself
+- The audio is convincing enough; VO quality is all over the place though

- Gamebreaking, or at least playthrough breaking, bugs might occur
- Performance issues likely for most users, so please make sure you exceed minimum requirements and don't expect to run everything on Very High when running recommended specs
- No Steam Cloud support

I bought this for TimeSplitters 2: HD Remaster! Was not disappointed!

Homefront: The Revolution is definitely a mixed bag. It all depends on what you're expecting.

I went in expecting/knowing nothing about it, and really enjoyed the apocalyptic atmosphere, the excellent gunplay and customization, and graphics. The scenery is nothing to scoff at, and the creativity you can have with weaponry is quite fun (my favorite is RC car bombs).

Unfortunately, this game doesn't excel in it's advertised open world and story aspects, both of which are incredibly lackluster. There are no meaningful quests, only outposts you can capture which are pretty much all the same deal. The story is medicore and really not impressive, and there aren't any characters that really stood out to me.

I really only liked this game for what it does well: ripping around on motorcycles in bombed out cities causing mayhem, stealthing around super Korean infested areas, and taking in the awesome views.

I'd highly recommend it on the $7 sale, and cautiously recommend it at full price.

TimeSplitters 2 is a goated classic, idk why you have this whole homefront thing packed with it though

For $10, this game is a blast. Although it may not be as polished or bug free as other open world game, the gameplay and exploration is this games strong suit. After many patches since the games release, I feel this is the version they wanted to put out.

Pros
+ Large, highly detailed open world
+ AI is (usually) pretty smart, they will flank behind you and kill you if you don't pay attention
+ No regenerating health, health packs are scarce, and you can die in about 3-4 shots which makes the game really challenging on the hardest difficulty
+ A good amount of gun customization, allows you to change attachments on the fly
+ The guns feel heavy, killing enemies is satisfying
+ Amazing graphics on Ultra settings, also has a texture resoultion upscaler if you have a powerful PC
+ Very smooth, barely droped below 45FPS (my pc isn't that powerful to run ultra at a constant 60FPS)

Neutral
* The co-op mode is fun, if you can find players for it.
* Sound design is a little weird at times, sometimes certain sound effects are either too loud or too quiet
* The motorbike allows you to travel around faster, but there isn't much open room to go really fast, and there are enemies every where so you can get shot off if you're going too slow
* When the AI isn't being smart, they are doing some weird stuff, like sprinting around for no reason at all, or getting stuck in somewhere they shouldn't be
* Story is at times interesting, other times cliched and uninspired, but it's easy to not pay attention and still enjoy the gameplay
* No way to completely turn off the HUD or to make it smaller/more opaque. I can ignore the minimap when I don't need it, but I wish you could move it out of the way some more, it's pretty big

Negative
- Some minor bugs that are seemingly easy to fix, but still persist in the game
- The DLC doesn't add a whole lot to the game (get them on sale if you want them, also the last DLC they are making looks to be one of the best they've made)
- Wish there were more "base" guns (guns that aren't converted)
- Stealth is mediocre
- The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ radio is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying. Your radio is always blowing up with messages from 4 different people at once. Too bad you can't change just the volume of the radio, instead you have to turn down the volume for all dialog

Overall, while this game does have it's flaws, I believe this is one of the best games to come out of 2016. I'm a sucker for open-world FPS games, and this game gave me what I was wanting.

7/10, buy it on sale.

Despite being a 2016 game, HTR shows off some impressive graphics even for today's standards. The amount of detail on character models, weapons and also the general environment, is very high at all times. Distance LOD is generous: seeing characters and battles off in the distance is not uncommon. Features such as explosions, particles, physics are fluid, very well made.

2.
This title opts for a realistic combat style, a choice that pays off when done properly. Bullet impacts on enemies feel meaty and powerful, as they should be, while a headshot or a few bullets at worst are all it takes to drop most human foes. Weapon handling manages to be diverse and satisfying for each murder tool - accessories and mods have a noticeable impact, too.

An entire, separate campaign is playable in online co-op. This is an unusual choice, that almost no other game has ever made, as most titles prefer to include co-op in the main story, if they do at all. Certainly this boosts content value significantly, though being unable to play it Solo might upset some.

4.
The highest difficulty level is named Deathwish, for very good reason. On this setting enemy damage is brutal, as the lowliest goon can blast Ethan to hell in just a few shots. Explosions and high-caliber guns mean a very swift death regardless of upgrades, while enemy accuracy is quite spot on, once they get to targeting players.

Common foot soldiers may differ in attire or colors, but generally all act in the same way and have similar weapons. Special enemies include heavy units, and three vehicles (one of which is used as "boss" in only a very few specific encounters) - that's all, folks! This makes combat more stale, in the long run.

2.
Even if each weapon has three versions of itself, most of these variations prove redundant or useless. Why should anyone use the cumbersome, slow rocket launcher, if the faster and more abundant (in terms of ammo) grenade launcher can still 1-shot any non-boss vehicle anyway? Such a point can be made for about half of the game's weapons.

3.
A thorough player that fully completes every activity in each sector, before moving to the next main mission, will unlock everything about halfway through the game. From that point onward, there will be no more meaningful progression in terms of unlocks or new things to try out.

4.
Each zone's side activities, from missions such as conquering strategic points - to more menial tasks such as sabotage or small-time street rescue, prove to always be the same slog. Initially the diversity is sufficient, though the pool is just not wide enough to be fresh for the whole adventure, while the efforts made to give some uniqueness in some side jobs, are not enough.

Exploration
Is generally performed on foot, however also motorbikes are present in certain areas for faster movement. Level design has a considerably vertical development, in fact several important locations will be on roofs or anyway high places, that often need some sort of parkour to be reached. In rare cases, there also will be small puzzles players need to figure out in order to open specific doors or passageways.

The global map highlights all points of interest, from major outposts to small sabotage targets, however this only is true after each zone's Transceiver is found and hacked. Stashes of various type are also scattered around, along with unmarked secret caches that often hold great quantities of valuables to sell to the nearest trader.

Side Activities
Mainly are divided into major and minor ones. The big-time ones generally are about conquering enemy outposts or strongholds, which results in the liberation of a large chunk of map from enemy influence. To completely liberate a Zone, all of them need to be in the Resistance's hands.

Smaller activities include sabotage (such as destroying logistical equipment), helping those in need like hostages, or activating propaganda radios. All these acts will raise the "Hearts & Minds" gauge, which must reach 100% to unlock the Liberation mission for each major zone, other than awarding Tech Points to unlock weapons and equipment.

Combat
Plays out in a classic, although realistic, first-person shooter fashion. Ethan will be able to carry one primary weapon along with a sidearm, until a second main slot is unlocked further in the campaign. Each weapon has three different modifications that can be swapped on-the-fly, a feature that allows great tactical versatility. For instance, the assault rifle can become either a LMG or a Grenade Launcher, each of these variants can also be accessorized separately.

Usually, the Resistance forces will be outnumbered and outgunned compared to the Korean invasion force, luckily the protagonist can "hire" up to four AI-controlled allies that will follow him pretty much anywhere, until their death. They cannot be commanded, however. GTK accessories in the form of grenades, controlled RC cars and more, can be crafted with scavenged resources like Batteries, Chemicals and more, and prove useful in distracting or attacking the enemy - though none of them is essential.

Character Management
Is performed at Armories generally found in any Resistance outpost. At these stations, players can refill ammo free of charge, other than exchange Tech Points and Cash for new weapons, upgrades, accessories and gear that provides passive bonuses. Also, it's possible to change the primary equipped weapons to better suit the next mission, if needed.

It took me around 17 hours to complete HTR, while also finishing all side activities I could find, on Deathwish difficulty. For the price of 20€ and decent quality, I'd say full price is worth only if one plans to also play the Co-Op campaign, otherwise wait for a sale.
