Up Taunt: "You're pathetic."
Self destruct: "Its not my time!"
Cant remember anymore off the top of my head.
I appreciate you sharing these lines. They sound really cold and ruthless! I didn’t expect Loxodont to have such a villainous tone—I didn’t originally see him as a bad guy. That was surprising!
Thanks again for taking the time to reply!
In an alternate future, he got rid of Forsburn & Zetterburn, replaced his body with machinery and rules over the Flame Empire for a century. This is where Clairen comes from, and she travels back in time to kill Loxodont in the past to change the future, pretty much like Lucina from Fire Emblem Awakening.
Of the fire characters, Forsburn & Clairen are clearly the most aligned with good (even if "Amateur, tch" for Clairen makes her sound super arrogant), Zetterburn is mostly a clueless and probably borderline "himbo" pawn who believes Loxodont at least in the 1st game, and Mollo from RoA 1 is from Clairen's timeline but after Clairen travels to the past and he's also a freedom fighter.
The only one fire character other than Loxodont who is villain coded and will most likely become a playable character later comes from Dungeons Of Aether (the game where Fleet comes from) and her name is Artemis, though she too is pretty much a pawn.
Thanks so much for the detailed explanation! I really appreciate the insight you gave into the lore and characters.
I have to say, I was really surprised to learn that Loxodont is the main villain. I honestly thought Forsburn and Clairen were the bad guys based on their appearances! I started the game because I found the characters so visually interesting, but I didn’t know much about their personalities or roles in the story. To find out Loxodont is actually the villain and that Forsburn and Clairen are more aligned with good was a huge twist for me! It’s made me even more curious to dive deeper into the lore.
If you have any recommendations on where I should look to learn more about the story, I’d really appreciate it!
Rivals of Aether 1's story mode covers the 8 base characters, but it's pretty barebones and really it's just RoA 2's arcade mode with added flavor text. If you don't already have RoA 1 and aren't interested in it, you can just watch on Youtube the 5-10 minutes worth of story text in there.
Otherwise, you'll have to turn yourself to the Tales of Aether comics, which are centered around Clairen. They're written by the same guy who wrote Dungeons of Aether and the Sonic IDW comics.
Then Lovers of Aether is just an April Fools dating sim alternate universe sh1tpost. A high effort sh1tpost (Forsburn is an hilarious boy failure in there), and though free and has a quiz test in the middle with lore questions, it's irrelevant.
Self-destruct: "Mamma Mia!"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9ENfWq34Lk&t=1s this video is great, a very thorough summary of the lore!
I also tried Lovers of Aether, and it was so much fun! Honestly, it feels like a waste for it to be just an April Fools project. In Rivals, Etalus is such a tough-looking character, but in Lovers of Aether, he was absolutely adorable.
By the way, it looks like today’s update added new voice lines for Loxodont. If you have any info about them, I’d love to hear more!
