Rivals of Aether II

Rivals of Aether II

I wish there were nicer chat options + Emote UI Broken
Most of them aren't a lot of fun. And you can't say anything at the end of a set! I'm used to saying Well Played or something after a good set. Our Cause Is Just. Crap like that.

A good number of them are kind of jerk-responses as well.

On top of that, my emote screen has been partially unusable for a while. It can't decide how to fit them all into the window so it vibrates horribly every frame and i can't read anything that's on that screen. I bought all the ones in the coin shop because you have to do SOMETHING with them, and it's like, a bad experience having done so.

And the way they're sorted is confusing and kind of bad as well. You should be able to hide ones you think are useless.

I dunno, i hope they put some more polish on this aspect of things, because while you can talk a little bit DURING the set, there's no pleasant parting ways in ranked.

Yeah! I definitely miss being able to say "Thanks", "GG", etc after a set. I miss the Rivals 1 screen where you were kind of waiting in your own 'lobby' that you return to between matches and could emote when a player matched in.
I also miss the colors for each emote. It’s a simple thing but I liked it.

Yeah, there's a lot of little points with the emotes now that feel kind of off. The fact that the more detailed animated emotes are tied to specific messages that you almost never have a reason to use feels like a missed opportunity.
And having to buy emotes is really dumb

They're all available for coins, and the amount of coins isn't too much (since you get like 1500 coins per three games once you're at the end of any event track, +20% if you have the starter bundle). It would be more annoying if I actually wanted everything you can buy with coins, but since I only main one character and only care for a few emotes, it's not really an obstacle to just picking up any emote I really like when it rotates into the shop.

With how Events progress beyond lvl 20 (I'm lvl 37 on the current one) and each level gives 500 coins (+20%), and with all the Arcade first clears giving 2 levels (so 6 levels per character), I've rarely found myself short of coins for anything I wanted lately. I just did Loxodont's Easy & Medium, got from lvl 9 to 14 on him, and finished lvl 37 of the Primal event, and for 6 minutes worth of gameplay I got like 3k coins.

A good majority of the emotes come from the F2P Creatures of Aether, and IIRC they required the premium currency available in limited quantity through daily quests and other things, or through season pass (actual 5$ season pass).

There're actually more unlockable emotes than there're buyables too. 2 unlockable per character + the 3 for all events put them at 25 unlockables VS 19 buyables at either 12000 or 18000 coins.
