Online Data Download Failed
when attempting to pass the start screen the game states "Downloading Online Data" then a few seconds later:
"Online Data Download Failed
Failed to download online data. Some online features may not function correctly or may be unavailable."

It does let me enter to play the game but attempting to join a lobby immediately crashes.

Do you have an Aether account setup?

You can't play online modes without one. Normally, you can get one setup tinkering in the options.

EDIT: Just fetched that from another person's message

There's a bug on this version that is causing this for people who didn't already set up an in-game Aether Studios account. The workaround is to go to the Betas tab of the game properties in Steam and choose to switch to the previous version. You can then start the game and set up your account. Once you've done that, you can switch back to the current version.

I imagine it'll get hotfixed within a day or so, but I don't think they've said for sure that they're aware of it yet despite it starting to pop up on the bug report DIscord forum.

The game just updated for that reason:

We have pushed an update to fix an issue that prevented our new players (those who bought the game after the Olympia update) from accessing online features.
We deeply apologize to those players for the inconvenience caused, and wish them an excellent time in ROA2.
