Thanks for the win? Lmao.
This is not a valid complaint here. There's three criteria for why people pick a particular character in a fighting game. Play style, aesthetics, and how strong they are in the meta. For instance I like Elena in SF3 because of her long reaching normals (Zoning), she's in a bikini-like attire, and she's upper mid tier.
Most people who like fighting games like myself only want to learn at most 4-6 characters, but ONLY if it has a huge roster like SSBU, or Vs Capcom series where there's tons of variety.
For all other fighting games, it's 2-3 because it takes a long time to get really good with any one character, and I don't want to be mediocre with everyone I play. I'd rather specialize with 2-3 characters I genuinely have fun playing so I can win more often.
this must be one of the biggest "low skill" take on the entire forum. this game has a TON if player expression. Just looking at two top players using the same char will make you think these are indeed two different chars.
on topic:
yes, clairen has a very straight forward and easy gameplan. most people just follow that since it is good enough against most people they face. only at the top level does the char become more nuanced. Other chars open up much earlier.
Who were the easiest to play characters from Rivals 1 who haven't been added yet?
Who were the hardest characters to play in Rivals 1 too?
Yet, it's staggering how frequently I win a round only for my opponent to switch to Clairen for the win.
Hardest to play 'effectively' would probably go to Absa or Elliana? Absa took a bit of know-how, and Ellie needed a good bit of resource management. Most Rivals 1 characters had a low skill floor, but a high skill ceiling.
So what you really mean is you wish people would play more than one unique play style when playing against them in a fighting game.
That's definitely more understandable, since Ryu, Ken, and Akuma all have similar playstyles, and even have a lot of overlapped moves. You'd prefer they play something like JP, Ryu, and Kimerly for variety sake.
In fairness, I can't stand playing Dragon Ball Fighter Z because EVERY character plays like a rush down character, it's pretty frustrating if you like Zoners like myself.
