Is interest rate still a thing? (No, it's not!)
I seem to be getting the same amount of money at the same rate any time. Doesn't matter if i have 0 resources or 5000 resources.

Your resources are still important for your score. When killing an alien the score increase is higher the more resources you have.
Resource increase is a constant 'drip' with bonus when killing some waves.

Oh for ♥♥♥♥♥ sake. I'm starting to like the game less and less. So many weird design choices.

The score matters for two things:

1. Getting a gold medal. You get a gold medal no matter what you do though. The difficulty doesn't even matter!

2. Online leaderboards. They're already starting to get flooded by hackers, so you have no chance to get on the top spots anyway.

-> The score doesn't matter at all right now.

This game is a mess. It's like they looked at DG1 and thought "what could we take away from it?". Interest rates that actually make you plant towers at the right time? GONE! Challenging, but fair levels that were actually balanced? GONE! Have some crappy difficulty system instead. Gun towers that kick ass? GONE! Have the whimpy cousin of the Gun tower instead.

@nyd, there was a reason for removing interest rate... the good players were basically swimming in resources by placing the right tower at the right time... while beginners had a really hard time since resources were never enough.

Now ever one has the same amount of resources... but the good players still get a better score by placing the right towers at the right time.

I do like the new scoring mechanic. But there are still lots and lots of bugs that need to get fixed before the game is really enjoyable. (Fast forward damage is broken, backspace has weird effects, multiplayer is broken, etc.)

So they dumbed the game down instead of making players learn the mechanics. Great design choice...

Once again, score doesn't make sense or matter matter at all right row. Played the same level on Easy, Normal, Hard and Elite. Score was about the same each time. So the only point of playing the hardest difficulty is having a score there?
(You won't see it though, because hackers have a higher one anyway.)

You say score doesn't matter and mainly because of the hackers, but they were there in DG1, too and there you also played for score, didn't you? Hackers, as sad as it may be, are a fact of online life and they are also not going away and the only thing developers can do is to react to the actions of the hackers.

But, while the resource mechanic did change a bit in DG2, you are still rewarded for placing towers later if you can kill aliens with a higher amount of resources banked before building the tower. However, this time you also have to balance it out with them reaching the core housing, as each core, that is not in the housing will lower your score significantly.

I also think it was a good move in re-balancing the towers a bit, as in DG1 the gun tower was almost too prevalent and in many cases the 'go to' tower for many situations. This time around you have to build a bit more diverse.

As a DG1 veteran, however, it should not be as suprising that you blasted through most levels easily, which certainly might skew your view on levels being balanced a bit, as well as receiving the gold medal easily. Still, there might be user made levels in the making that offer a level of challenge more suited to your liking.

'swimming in resource' just meant in dg1 the same as in dg2 -> better score.
i find the new scoring system is very similar to the old one, the only difference being your conserved resource goes straight to the score not accumulated as interest (and calculated the score from it at the end of the map). well, you cant spend the 'extra' but
1. youre a beginner and your goal is to complete the map and the above doesnt really matter as you have to try very hard not to get gold,
2. youre familiar with the game, you try to get better scores so you dont spend funds only when you find it necessary - and in this case it doesnt matter either.
so whats the fuss?
i think they wanted to simplify the scoring system but somehow managed to make it a bit more complicated.
i like the graph btw, but cant understand for the life of me why cant we see necessary scores to achieve medals. now thats a developer decision i cant understand (among a few). unless i managed to overlook it somehow...
I never had issues completing levels in DG1 due to the interest rate mechanic. I did have trouble getting gold medals because of it but that was the point. You had to sit down and come up with an optimization strat.

IF i really liked a particular level, i tried to get a good score. Otherwise i just played through the levels, because they were challenging, but rewarding. There's no reward for playing on the hardest difficulty and it's not balanced at all. Why bother with Elite, when you can also get the gold on Easy?

Also, it doesn't freaking matter if you save your money for the score. You get a gold medal, no matter what you do. Go ahead and try it. Blow your cash all the time and you still get a gold medal.

The game is dumbed down. It's a sad fact that makes the game way worse than it could be. I've talked to quite a few DG1 veterans and most of them seem to dislike the game so far. We'll see what the future brings, but right now i wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Score doesn't mean anything. Hackers flooded DG1 and they've cracked DG2 in less than two days of release. There's no point in scores now and no point of trying to save for a rainy day. One of the best things of the first game was watching my resource number skyrocket.
