will there be a server wipe??
SmokeMan Jan 16 @ 8:22pm
there needs to be an option to make it less of a walking simulator so we can enjoy the action side of the game... why do i need to worry about getting sick from touching an object, I should have the ability to turn that off and be able to enjoy the me vs. zombie portion of the game. Everytime something is introduced, you guys find a way to make it a difficult process... let me hop off the ladder without having to worry about catching malaria in the process... jesus.
Crazy how u cant fix cars still, but they work in all the newer games utilizing the same or similar engine.
Would not mind a way to easily play on a modded single player world
The sound reworks are great, but you NEED to update melee audio. It sounds so pitiful and weak no matter what weapon you're using. Also, y'know, engine update and all that.

Dear DayZ Team,

I bought DayZ years ago, hoping it would grow into the masterpiece it has the potential to be. Unfortunately, after all this time, the game still feels stuck in the past.

The graphics engine desperately needs an upgrade, and the overall visual quality has to improve. These are not small issues—they’re holding the game back in a big way. At this point, improving the graphics could be the only way to save DayZ.

If that’s not in the plans, then why not focus on DayZ 2 instead of rolling out updates that feel random and lack direction? A sequel could finally deliver the fresh start and improvements players have been waiting for.

As a paying customer, I’d love to see the game live up to its potential. Please consider making real changes to keep DayZ alive and relevant.

Sincerely,

Dude if you were here back in 2016, you'd be happy that the game just functions. This was abandonware for awhile, at one point they even removed the zombies

Oh, I get it—you’re clinging to 2016 like it’s some kind of badge of honor. Yes, I’m aware of how broken DayZ was back then. Guess what? That doesn’t mean we should lower our standards forever. If anything, surviving that era should make you want more for this game, not settle for mediocrity.

Removing zombies at one point? Sure, it’s a funny anecdote now, but if you think that’s a reason to celebrate the game simply “functioning” in 2025, you might want to reevaluate your expectations. Games are supposed to evolve. Saying “it works now, so let’s leave it as is” is like celebrating because your car, which hasn’t been updated in a decade, still turns on. Functional doesn’t equal exceptional.

Also, let’s not pretend DayZ has magically reached perfection just because it’s no longer abandonware. It’s running on an outdated engine that limits its potential, the optimization is far from stellar, and yes, the visuals are stuck in 2014. The game can’t live off its “underdog survivor story” forever. At some point, it needs to grow up and embrace modern gaming standards.

You know what’s funny? If DayZ hadn’t been stuck in development hell for years, we might already have had DayZ 2 by now—something that actually builds on what the original game started. The fact that people like me are still here asking for better after all this time shows that we’re not here to bash the game; we just want to see it reach its full potential.

So, no, I won’t sit here and be grateful just because it functions. If you’re okay with that, cool—but some of us have higher standards.

Best of luck surviving in 2016,
[Someone Who Believes in Progress]

Guys, forget about Dayz 2 or improving zombie AI, building, and everything else. Doesn't anyone else understand that the developers don't care about the opinion of the audience of their game? They want to sell sakhal and make money, not improve the game.

During this time, it would have been possible to make Dayz 3 using different engines. Today, the mechanics and immersion in the environment are very old and look dull. And old players expected more from the game, and this is logical. The game is gaining online only thanks to enthusiasts who stamp out mods and carbon-copy servers, and on these servers it is no longer Dayz, but God knows what. And on the official servers, of which there are only 30, there are cheaters. The game currently requires support to be stopped, it has outlived its usefulness, because this engine is not capable of implementing the plan. I worked on the servers and scripts of this game and its engine is very old, the scripts work on crutches. Players need slightly more realistic mechanics of interaction with objects and nature, so that, for example, the seasons change during the year, so that in winter you can collect snow and melt it in a pot on a fire or fill it in a bottle and put it in your clothes so that it melts from the heat of your body and you can drink this water without constantly waiting for infection with bacteria, so that in winter you do not appear in only underwear on the shore, so that there is some kind of notification for other players if in their area, for example, 700 meters away, someone lit a fire when the wind blows in their direction, approximately like in real life without seeing smoke and a fire you can determine approximately where this smell is coming from by the smell of smoke, such a notification made more complex mechanics and so it would be possible to track down another Irok, You can make a lot of normal mechanics that will complicate survival and there is no need to artificially complicate the game from the start with a cold and salmonella, so that you run around looking for the necessary pills for two days, unless of course a cheater shoots you. And only then start playing to look for something for your camp and so on. About construction, this is generally some kind of pain, not construction, everything looks clumsy and inconvenient. Animation of cutting down a tree and so on, it generally looks like the game is in the early stages of development and it was only released for alpha testing. In short, the game has a lot of problems and it is outdated due to the limitations of the game engine itself, which is stuck in 2014. The game during this period from the start for the amount that players pay should already have a lot of mechanics so that modders do not understand the scripts and do not make their modifications for a more interesting immersion in the game, which work crookedly and cause errors and server crashes. A huge plus of the Bohemia developers is that they allow you to create servers for free in their games and this is beneficial to them, they use the developments of the creators of modifications and this somehow forces them, once every six months, to do something insignificant for the game. Well, and most importantly, open access to the creation of servers keeps the online in the game high. Take the same Scam, it has everything after purchase, well, except that just like in Dayz there are no missions with NPCs, but a huge minus is that there is no possibility of creating your own servers. Look at Fallout 76, you enter it and your eyes run wide, you don’t know what to do first, a lot of tasks even after completing all the story missions, and when you have achieved everything, you still enter this game and disappear for 4 hours because you need to do one thing, another, third, as if it were a second life. And I never thought that I would ever give up Arma 2, 3 and Dayz for Fallout 76, but time does not stand still, years ago I realized that in my favorite games Dayz and Arma there was a stagnation of development. Dayz needs content from the start, the developers are used to the fact that players like in Arma 3 will finish everything themselves and do not want to move, they only want money for empty additions that have one hat, one pistol or false mustache and beard and this has been going on since Dean Hall left the studio. It's time to wake up people.
That was A LOT of typing to write absolutely nothing. Zilch, Garbage. All it shows is that you haven't played the game since 2014 as most of the things you have mentioned have been fixed. LOL.:ss13down::stawtf::stawtf::lol::lol::lol:

Hey there,

Glad to see you're enjoying *DayZ*—after all, gaming is about having fun, and if you're satisfied, that's great for you. However, let's break down a few of your points because it seems like you're viewing the game through rose-tinted NVGs.

1. **"Game is in the best state it’s ever been in"**
I’ll give you this: *DayZ* is stable compared to its early days, and yes, it’s gained new players. But let’s be honest—being “better than it was” doesn’t mean it’s reached its potential. It's like saying a 20-year-old car is now the best it’s ever been because you replaced the tires.

2. **"Photo realistic"**
Respectfully, calling *DayZ* “photo realistic” is a stretch. Sure, the landscapes look decent—Bohemia's always nailed environments—but the character models, animations, and interactions? They scream 2014. And no, I’m not running low graphics—I’m running high expectations.

3. **"Living up to its potential"**
Let’s consider potential. A survival game in a massive sandbox like *DayZ* has so much room for innovation:
- Seasons with environmental impacts.
- More immersive survival mechanics (e.g., collecting snow in winter or improved cooking systems).
- Meaningful base-building that doesn’t look like an early access placeholder.

Instead, we’ve got cheaters running rampant on official servers, a modding community doing the devs’ heavy lifting, and a gameplay loop that’s stagnated since Dean Hall left. If this is its potential, the bar is on the floor.

4. **"Keep it up, devs"**
Don’t get me wrong; I respect the developers for keeping *DayZ* alive. But let’s not ignore the elephant in the room: this game has been carried by its *community*, not its updates. Mods like *Expansion* and *Namalsk* have kept the player base engaged far more than anything official.

### Final Thoughts
Enjoy the game for what it is, but let’s not pretend it’s perfect or above critique. Praising mediocrity only ensures stagnation. If Bohemia ever decides to push *DayZ* beyond its outdated engine and clunky mechanics, *that’s* when we’ll see its true potential.

Until then, I’ll keep my “low graphics” settings and high standards. 😉

Cheers,
[A Paying Customer with Realistic Expectations]

Code Alpha: Mr., Ah, the classic "*LOL, you're wrong because I said so*" argument. Always a delight to encounter someone who thinks dismissing a well-constructed critique with a lazy one-liner somehow wins the debate. Let’s break this down so even you can follow along:

1. **"A LOT of typing to write absolutely nothing"**
Funny you say that, considering your response contains no actual substance. It’s like calling someone out for writing an essay while handing in a napkin with "LOL" scribbled on it.

2. **"You haven't played the game since 2014"**
Wrong. I’ve played the game through its many stages—yes, including its buggy, borderline unplayable 2014 state. I’m well aware of the progress, but here’s the thing: progress doesn’t equal perfection. Just because the car starts now doesn’t mean it’s ready for the Indy 500.

3. **"Most of the things you have mentioned have been fixed"**
Ah, so we *have* solved the lack of meaningful survival mechanics, seasonal dynamics, or proper base-building tools? Oh, wait—we haven’t. Let me guess, you think adding a few new guns and slightly better performance counts as "fixing everything." How cute.

4. **"LOL"**
Ah, the universal sign of someone who ran out of arguments before they even started. Always a strong indicator of a robust intellect at work.

### The Reality
Look, if you’re happy with *DayZ* as it is, more power to you. But dismissing valid criticisms with "LOL, you're wrong" doesn’t make you look clever; it makes you look like someone who can’t handle the fact that not everyone shares your low standards.

So, next time you feel the urge to type something this uninspired, maybe take a moment to think it through—or don’t. I’m sure the community appreciates the entertainment either way. 😉

Cheers,

I stopped playing this game in 2020, then I worked on servers for this game and studied it more than you, it became uninteresting to me because I knew all its mechanics at the script level from the inside if you don’t understand what it means to know the game inside and out. The last time I launched the game was about a year ago, and I’m sure that nothing has changed there during this time. It's a pity that you didn't see among my lines that I was involved in servers and scripts in this game. And this is the most important thing that I look at this game not only as a player, but also as a technical person who understands scripts and server maintenance. P.S. LOL
