It's a subjective point of view. Most people i know don't want to play on modded servers or better only play on extremely low-modded servers since 90% of them are cursed with senseless, core-destroying bs like Traders, Unlimited Stamina, Stalker stuff and more.

I think your friends are brain dead, otherwise I can't imagine why they can't just read the server description
Servers with mods allow you to enjoy the game in a new way, without waiting for updates from the developer (if it can even be called an update, every time we laugh with friends)

If your on console they give you a pat on the back for buying the dlc, on steam you get a soundtrack (That was already free on youtube, spotify, etc)
