Base radio station - how does it work?
A noob question about the base radio station a.k.a. field tranciever (I have never used radio or walkie talkie comms before actually.....)

After I have tuned in to some frequency, do I just talk using the same key as for close-range chat, or does it work differently?

In theory it works like the small portable one, you switch it on and you just use the Voip to talk to someone who is tuned on the same frequency, it just has a much longer range.

It's also true that it takes the backpack slot, so I still have to read of someone actually bothering to use it.

Thanks for your answer!

I plan to use it as a broadcasting station from my base, so I don´t intend to lug it around all the time.

So when I then use the Voip to broadcast, is the close range chat then automatically silent, or will other players in the vicinity hear what I´m prattling over the radio as well?

If it's the same as the small one yes, people in the vicinity will still hear you, usually when using the radio is better to set the volume to whisper (only one wave symbol near the voip icon), the default is arrow up and down to increase and decrease the volume.
