Randomly taking damage and grunting after eating 20% of a canned tuna
So I contracted salmonellosis somehow, don't know exactly how I did it. I know from randomly looking around the wiki before that you have to avoid eating or drinking too much, so I went to a well and took a single full white-circle sip, then a little while later opened and ate a little canned tuna that I only just opened.

Not long after, my health gains a single down arrow and I begin to grunt in pain. No idea why, newbie to standalone DayZ here. The wiki says nothing about taking damage from having salmonellosis, and I still have white food, water and every other stat is fine as well.

Is it just that a disease which seems like it's meant to cause vomiting which would screw up trying to eat and drink enough to survive actually also just outright causes damage to your health over time with a grunt every few seconds?

I'd really rather not die over something like this when this is the first character I've gotten which is actually doing well (I'm playing PvE, zombies, predators and the survival stats are the main threat here, I'm well aware that in regular DayZ death by player is far more likely than any other kind of death) so yeah.

congratulations - u entered the late stage of wound infection :) and u had salmonella on top of it.
your health will continue to go down now til u die. only chance left for u is to find some tetracycline pills. if, take one at a time and only take the next once the pill symbol is gone again. u can boost the effect with a multivitamin.
to avoid this from happening make sure to disinfect your rags/bandages before bandaging.

salmonella can be easily cured by just having your immunity level way up (blood, health, hydration, energy). just eat/drink small amounts and only continue when the arrows for food/water go down again. rinse and repeat.

Yeah, I think damaged cans of food have a % chance
of making you sick, Not 100% sure though, the game changes
with every major update.
When i find damaged food i will eat it carefully.
What i mean is, take a couple of bites, wait a min and
eat some more.. Continue until finished.
Anything from food will be salmonella.
My most common cause of death is "stupid".

Yeah but the issue is taking damage from it. It's not the catching it I'm concerned about, it's the fact I'm taking health damage.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

So there's no indication that hey, your wound is starting to get infected, you should do something, right up until it's late-stage if you're also suffering from Salmonellosis and have that making you think it's just that causing the noise and not a wound infection?

Only found one alcohol tincture and the game is extremely unfriendly to new players with how it hides basically everything making me assume that "Oh, these rags are PRISTINE, that probably means they're safe to use to wrap this scratch up."

Nearest big area for medical loot to Dubrovka is Berezino, well at least I know what direction to run and hope I can actually find some, yay for ArmA 2 experience xD

Update: Red-health after visiting the doctor's office with literally nothing worth talking about, so incapable of fighting that I had to shoot a zombie when it aggroed another, which led to about five more dogpiling me with nowhere to climb, beat to death in a house.

The Condition of the Rags/Bandages does not matter, so long as they say "Disinfected" .. Pristine condition rags are not by default "disinfected", AND bandages can become non-Disinfected if they get wet or damaged. You can disinfect Badly Damaged rags/bandages.
If you have a limited amount of Disinfectant, split your stack of rags and do one at a time.
- Incase you don't know, there are (3) Disinfectants:
-- Alcohol
-- Iodine
-- Disinfectant Spray

Yeah I learned that, I was able to disinfect the bandages I had (I respawned near where I died and got my stuff back, only lost my coat) so now I'll be able to use those.

Knowing that if they get wet or damaged they can lose it means I'm definitely gonna keep em in a protective case, just 'in case' ;)
