Unknown food cans and sickness
So i recently started playing dayz seriously after considering it for awhile.
I've eaten a few unknown food cans yesterday, then got on today and was immediately sick upon spawning in.
I also killed a chicken and kept the raw meat in my inventory for a bit before cooking it, and eating it (not raw).
I believe the unknown food cans got me sick; now, I've been nurturing my survivor for the past 5 hours or so, after getting into a fight and losing almost all my blood and coming down to flashing red health. I'm finally at all white and full health and blood.
My question is, can I wait out the sickness and just keep myself well fed and hydrated, or do i need to venture out and find charcoal(?) tablets?
Please let me know, I know that finding the tablets would accelerate my rate of recovery, but with the constant vomiting/nibbling, its alot to manage and i want to be free of sickness before I venture out again.

u wont get sick from the unknown food can. u might only vomit from it when consuming too much at once.

yes, u can cure that sickness by keeping all your stats (hydration, energy, blood, health) on a high level, but it takes a while to get rid off it the longer u carry the disease already.

the symptoms u describe sound like u catched cholera (consuming unclean water) or salmonella (eating raw meat or eating with bloody hands).
both can be fixed as said above or with tetracycline (cholera) / charcoal (salmonella). take one pill at time and only take the next when the pill symbol is gone again.
u can double the effect of tetras and charcoal with multivitamins.

hey thats good to know, must be chlorea then. unless you can catch salmonella from just handling raw chicken or something.

You get salmonella from meat and cholera from water.
Just handeling raw meat is fine. Just remember to wash up before eating.

Drinking from "used" part filled bottles or canteens will
often make you sick. Empty them and re fill them.

yes ive learnt that now haha, does this sickness go away on its own eventually, or do i absolutely need to find tetra pills?

It will go away eventually, keep your food and hydration up.
If your throwing up, just eat a couple of bites and wait a min,
eat a bit more etc.. Same goes for drinking.

I think they did you a favour. Cholera is a pain to get rid of.

The biggest thing about those cans is they really don't taste
of anything..

this experience led me to have many other lives since then which have been great. i actually started playing on the karmakrew community servers recently which has been great for a solo like me. tried a few other servers but i find i like a pretty vanilla experience, in game maps and map markers and stuff ruin my immersion haha

Glad you found your groove mate. Best thing about the game is there
really is no "right" way to play it. Got to love sandboxes.
